Review of Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds - Episodes 1 To 9 DVD by  matt1979

Advantages: Action, drama, love story - the lot
Disadvantages: As if....

...of being a muskehound (musketeer). Setting off from his home town of Bearn the early episodes chart Dogtanians journey to Paris as he travels with his yellow pony Sandy through the country. His passage is filled with adventure as he meets his arch enemy, The Black Moustache, the mysterious Milady and his love interest Julliette and involves plenty of action, drama and tears, setting the scene for the rest of the series. The DVD goes on to show Dogtanians early experiences in Paris before settling down to the core plot of Dogtanian aiding Monsieur Trevilles Musketeers/hounds (including the heroic Porthos, Athos and Aramis) fighting Cardinal Richelieu’s guards over who should have the right to protect the king. Episode index 1. Dogtanians journey 2. Dogtanian meets the Black Moustache 3. Paris, city of dreams 4. The three invincible... Read review

Serenity - A suprisingly good conversion to film
Review of Serenity DVD by  dancomp

Advantages: Slickly produced, well structured, perfect length
Disadvantages: Hard for new viewers to empathise with some of the characters

...I saw Serenity from the viewpoint of someone who has seen all the Firefly eps beforehand. Luckily enough, my wife had not. Bottom line? We both enjoyed it thoroughly. Serenity concerns the crew of a down-at-heel spaceship. She's not the best constructed craft in the galaxy and her crew are similarly down-at-heel, "on the raggedy edge" in their desperate search to keep the ship flying they have resorted to legal means and rather more questionable contracts. If you wanted to know about the character of said Captain, the director puts it best when he says that Mal is what Han Solo could have become had he walked into that cantina 10 minutes after the farmboy and the old man had left. I won't spoil the plot. Suffice it to say that Mal and his old comrade in arms Zoe were on the wrong side of a war with the powers that be. Mal takes... Read review

Brilliant, Brilliant Film!!!!!
Review of Serenity DVD by  katygriff

Advantages: Fun, Acting, Story, Effects, Everything!!
Disadvantages: None.

...I am a big science fiction fan and one of my favourite all time shows is Buffy the Vampire Slayer. When that finished I was a bit fed up but then fast forward to a few years later and I heard that the creator of Buffy had made a movie called Serenity. I could not wait and I hadn't even heard of the TV series Firefly that it was based on when I went to see it with my boyfriend. We loved it and now I is out on DVD I am extremely pleased and as you can tell by the five stars that I have given it, I think it is brilliant. ----- What is the film about? (Reading from the back of the box) Captain Malcolm Reynolds, a hardened veteran (on the losing side) of a galactic civil war, now ekes out a living aboard his ship, Serenity. He leads a small, eclectic crew, but when Mal takes on two new passengers - a young doctor and his telepathic sister... Read review
