Any fan of Kurt Cobain( Lead singer and guitarist of Nirvana) and knowing some background on Kurt's death (supposidly suicide) ;watching this Nick Broomfield documentary, sheds light on the time around Kurt's death :- Wether he was suicidal or not. Nick Broomfield (documentarist of Kurt and Courtney, Biggie and Tupac...) shows us many interviews that leads us to put Courtney Love( Kurt's wife) into the limelight of having something to do with Kurt's Death and that Kurt may not have been suicidal in the first place.
As a documentary, it really is spectacular. I studied this as one of the modern documentaries for my media studies course. Nick Broomfield always takes that one step further to get information and this I find respectful, Nick really is enthusiastic about his work. Unlike most other documentaries the director, in this case is Nick Broomfield, is not always stood behind the camera. Nick being infront of the camera shows more interactivity infront of the camera, giving the director more of a personallity, name and style.
What also is great about this documentary is that we are shown parts of Kurt's childhood and general roots which shows more personallity to Kurt Cobain than the ' rock star ' persona being the only uncovered persona through the media. Thus Nick giving background information for us as an audience to concoct into a conclusion based around wether Kurt was actually suicidal in the first place. One thing I am really gald about is an interview with Tom Grant;the man that is working behind the conspiracy theory behind Kurt's death.
This documentary is somehow let down, but only because of Courtney Love having rights on mostly anything to do with Nirvana. ' Kurt and Courtney' could be seen as bias ( on kurt's side ) but really this can be seen as Courtney's fault, even Courtney's father is bitter towards her. I'll leave it upto you to completely decide on this though.
There is so much more in this DVD that really makes it full to the brim of information and with brilliant documentary directing from Nick Broomfield, Trust me ' Kurt and Courtney ' is a great buy.

I'm not a Cobain fan but I would still be interested in seeing this. x

I'm a huge Nick Broomfield fan, and have seen all his films/documentaries. I was a big Nirvana fan too, so I really enjoyed this. Welcome to Ciao - you've made a brilliant start. x

good review.Wasn't sure about this when I saw it , but I've always been more of a Courtney than a Kurt fan.If you want to read a really great book about Hole, Nirvana, as well as less mainstream grunge bands like Mudhoney and Half-Japanese, check out 'Live through this' by Everett True
