Words cannot describe how simple yet ingeniously funny this programme was (and still is). The basic premise is Alan Partridge (played by Steve Coogan), interviews a number of equally fictional guests, but in a cringeworthily poor and clumsy way. Following on from the equally successful series The Day Today, this series delves further into the character of Partridge. This 2-disc DVD contains all 6 episodes from the one series of Knowing Me, Knowing You, along with the Christmas special (Knowing Me, Knowing Yule), and heaps of extras and special features (including biographies of the stars of the show and audio commentaries by members of the cast). I think it is unique in that it is not your standard comedy series. Most shows are sitcom based, whereas this (when it originally hit our screens way back in 1994) is completely different. It is a spoof of chatshows, as the host (Partridge) interviews various guests and inevitably ends up alienating them to the point where they walk off during the interview, or even in one case resort to giving him physical abuse.
For those who do not know who Alan Partridge is, firstly, have you been living in a box the past two decades? Secondly, he is a narcissistic, self-opinionated, ignorant man with delusions of grandeur, and that is what makes this show so funny. In each case his ignorance and downright rudeness is met by the equally diverse characteristics of the guests he interviews. Even in the Christmas special, he punches the (fictional) Director General of the BBC with a stuffed turkey over his fist, causing the lid to be closed on his future TV career, and for him to fall into a nervous breakdown live on TV.
As well as these episodes, there is also an audio commentary, along with a never broadcast on TV pilot episode (albeit only half the length of a standard episode at just fifteen minutes). The DVD cover features a rather smug looking image of Partridge himself in his trademark tie and blazer. The DVD is also good value for money, at around a tenner for the complete series and bonus features. The only minor downfall is that there isn't enough for the avid Partridge fan, at just 7 episodes. However, it doesn't matter when or how often you watch these episodes, they will always remain funny.
My suggestion if you are a fan of all things comedic would be to grab this DVD without hesitation.

This is side splitting cringeworthy brilliance-- as is all of 'alan'.
I think there this dvd requires a person to have a certain 'kind' of humour, it's funny in the sense of how 'partridgey' it is.
If you prefer predictable american 'friends' humour you won't like this.
