Advantages: some funny bits Disadvantages: disappointing
This week my film of choice was one that has just recently been released at the cinema, and that choice was 'Knocked Up'. I had the idea this would be a light hearted funny film judging by the adverts I'd seen so I thought I'd give this a try. It's a definite comedy but with an unusual kind of plot as judging by the title it involves pregnancy and is a bit of a mixture of a serious storyline with a bit of a silly one. I have to say I was a bit disappointed ... ...to my expectations and I think as usual the advert had pretty much revealed most of the funny parts of the film and left me in my cinema chair with disappointment.
We start the film off by seeing the lives of two individuals. Firstly, we meet Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), who lives with her sister and her sister's husband and children, it's a strange living arrangement but she sometimes looks after the kids. She has quite a good job working for ...

Knocked Up
I went to the cinema to see this movie as the trailers perceived it to be very good, very funny and fun to watch.
Knocked up is the story of a young girl who lives with her sister and her family who one night goes out on the drink after getting a promotion.
She meets a man who she got on great with, the danced and boogied all night long and then ended up having a one night stand. And then she doesn't see him again as he was a slop who ... ...eager to do well in her career and was shocked to believe that she ended up pregnant after this one night stand.
So - eight weeks later he gets a call from her and she meets up with him and breaks the news.
His reaction was none so nice, he was obviously in shock and he started rowing with her even though it was his fault as he didn't use protection but he thought she didn't want to use protection so - she's pregnant.
Now they know this - they ...

Advantages: Brilliantly directed, terrifically acted, and fantastically written Disadvantages: Not much fluctuation with the plot available
Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen are the stars of the show in this loveable and touching comedy, as two very different people are forced to try and make a go of a relationship, as a result of an unexpected pregnanycy on a one-night-stand.
Ben Stone (Rogen) is a lazy, unemployed slacker living with his stoner friends, using a generous government payoff following an accident to pay for all his requirements.
His only occupations, it seems, are smoking ... ...off from that, watching movies in order to identify any nude or sex scenes, and gather them on an under-construction internet database FleshOfTheStars, similar to the real website Mr. Skin. However, their lack of commitment prevents this from being a realistic business opportunity.
Alison Scott (Heigl) is completely different. She is a young, bright, good-looking, and talented lady who has just found herself promoted to an on-camera role at E! television.

...This was actualy a better film than I expecetd it to be with some good comic moments in it.
In the film Seth Rogan stars as he character Ben Stone, he has this awful perm job and is over weight which makes him look a bit like the fat guy in That 70's Show. Anyway Stone is a total waster living off the income from a faked insurance scam. On a drinking binge with his mates he manages to pull an attractive girl called Alison played by Katherine Heigl which can only suggest that alcohol does lower your standards considerably because in the real world someone that attractive would not end up with a loser like him, welcome to the world as seen by Hollywood. A one night stand follows however sure enough she ends up pregnant and Stone has to face up to his responsibilities despite having an aversion to commitment and no money either.
As I said...

Advantages: Funny, Sharp Script Disadvantages: Too Fluffy at the End
...When this film was on at the cinema I did not fancy watching it but a friend recommended it to me so I decided to rent the DVD recently.
This film is about two very different people who meet in a club and end up having a one night stand. Alison (Katherine Heigl) is an up and coming TV presenter for E! News and Ben (Seth Rogen) is unemployed and only interested in smoking weed, drinking and hanging out with his friends.
Alison believes she has had safe sex but starts having doubts when she is constantly sick. After taking a pregnancy test it confirms she is pregnant - then the problems start.
When Alison tells Ben he freaks out, but after the news has settled in and Alison decided to keep the baby they both decide to give their relationship a go for their baby. Only then Alison sees Ben for what he is (a big kid in a man's body) she...

Advantages: Cheap under £5 (correct at time of review) on play.com Disadvantages: not for those who don't think its cool to swear all day and take drugs
...and one of the guys go home together, the inevitable happens, and they have unprotected sex, unbeknown to Her. In the morning she can't believe what she slept with and makes her excuses. Strangely enough, she ends up pregnant. So for the baby's sake she contacts the guy, Ben, and asks to meet up. All gets explained and decide to try to have a relationship. He is an oaf, no real job, no money and she, Alison, wonders whether she made the right choice to have him involved. So they break up, Ben's upset and deep down so is Alison, so they get back together, Ben got an apartment and they all live happily ever after. And this was stretched into a lengthy movie. The actual labour scene was quite nice though.
WHAT A LET DOWN!!
Not for people who don't take drugs and swear all day!...

DVD Description
Katherine Heigl (GREY'S ANATOMY) and Seth Rogan star in this hilarious and touching comedy as two mismatched people brought together by a one-night-stand that results in an accidental pregnancy. Using many of the same actors from his previous film, THE 40-YEAR OLD VIRGIN, and his cult television series' UNDECLARED and FREAKS AND GEEKS, director Judd Apatow once again finds fresh humour in relationships and sex. Young, bright, and talented, Alison (Heigl) has everything going for her. After being promoted to an on-camera role at E! Television, Alison goes out to celebrate with her older sister, Debbie (Leslie Mann). Not long into the evening Debbie is called home to her kids, leaving Alison in the eager company of charming slacker Ben (Rogen). In the dark of the nightclub and in the ensuing drunk hours, Ben seems like a great guy. But in the sober light of day, Alison quickly discovers the man in her bed is nothing more than an overgrown child with no job, no money, and the social habits of a teenager. Brushing him off politely as a one-time affair, Alison goes on with her life, until two months later she realises that the unthinkable has happened. Apatow establishes the differences between his protagonists early in the film, bringing their contrasting worlds to life with stellar performances by secondary characters. Paul Rudd has never been better in his role as Alison's bitter brother-in-law, whose somewhat dysfunctional marriage to Alison's feisty but insecure sister unfolds in parallel to Alison and Ben's story. Meanwhile, Ben's home resembles a frat house, and his friends (Jay Baruchel, Jason Segel, Jonah Hill, and Martin Starr), while hilarious, are hardly role models. KNOCKED UP will have audiences cracking up from start to finish, and it also deals with some serious issues about commitment, life choices, and becoming an adult. The film asks universal questions in a sweet and touching way, achieving a sad humour that distinguishes it from other films of its genre.
