The 1980's was a great television era, and now someone has had the great idea of releasing boxsets of these programmes. There are a handful of programmes which seem to be fondly remembered and one of the best examples is knight rider.
Before astounding the World with Baywatch the Hoff had already become a TV legend (although Kitt was the real star) thanks to Knight Rider.
Knight Rider was a classic example of good vs bad as similar to other programmes of the time (Like the A Team). The basic plot was that Michael Knight (David Hassellhoff) helped to fight crime with his talking car (look this is supposed to be entertainment!)
At the beginning a detective called Michael Long is investigating a case where he is shot and left for dead, he is rescued by Wilton Knight a reclusive millionaire who saves his life. Once he regains consciousness he is given the chance to build a new life where can fight crime with the help of Knight industries (now I know what you are thinking, its not very relistic but keep going!)
He is given an indestructable. artificially intelligent, talking car called KITT (Knight Industries two thousand). The car is able to do almost anything (including driving itself). With this and the help of Devon Miles (head of Knight Industries) and Bonnie (KITTs mechanic) they tackle a variety of criminal organsiations.
Like the A Team every episode was a varient of the same theme Michael finds person (normally a young woman) being terroised by local bully who needs help. However th episodes never fail to be entertaining, with a nice touch of humour thrown in as well.
Personally the best episode of the series involves KITTs evil twin (I kid you not) called KARR (Knight Automated Roving Robot) who escapes and needs to be recaptured.
The episodes are given great names such as "Give me liberty....or give me death" and "Slammin Sammy's Stunt show Spectacular". Each episode is guaranteed to entertain and is ideal TV for someone who wants who just wants be some fun for an hour or so.
Knight Rider was created by Glen Larson, a man with a proven track record of making TV shows he had already been responsible for programmes such as The Fall Guy, Magnum PI, Buck Rogers and Quincy. Knight Rider remains my favourite of these shows (although I used to love the Fall Guy on a Friday night!)
Any televison programme which relies on technology risks becoming dated and therefore a show that is nearly 25 years old now looks old. However the fact that cars have not developed like KITT means that he keeps his appeal after all of this time
Knight Rider will appeal to those who fondly remember the show but there is no reason why it won't appeal to a new audience therefore I would recommend this to people as televison classic.
Unlike most BoxSet DVD's tthere are many special features to enjoy including Knight of the Phoenix commentary with David Hasselhof and Glen Larson.
The still gallery and Blueprint gallery are well woth a look for some classic shots from the show. There is also a chance for fans of KITT to look underthe hood and also a car manual.
The Box set also includes the Movie Knight Rider 2000 (TV movie made in 1991) this is worth watching just to laugh at the terrible acting. The film is set in futuristic year 2000 when guns have been banned, this film is really bad (but so bad you have to watch it!)
The formula of modern vechicles fighting crime has been used so many times (Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Street Hawk and Team Knight Rider etc) but Knight Rider remains head and shoulders above all of them.
Advantages: Good entertainment Disadvantages: none
Knight Rider - another of my favourite shows from the 1980's. Michael Knight lone crusader who battles against criminals who operate above the law and also a man who does not exist. Michael played by David Hasselhoff (later seen running in slow motion on the opening sequence of Baywatch), uses his trusty car KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) to catch and deal with the really bad guys of the criminal world - and we're not looking at mere shoplifters ... ...Knights life. Michael a cop who was rescued from near death and given the mother of all facelifts (Now I know where the plot from Remo - unarmed and dangerous from!) works for the Foundation for Law and Government (I think if memory serves correct) founded by the wealthy Walter Knight. The car, well - it can talk (voiced by William Daniels), jump over trucks (turbo Boost), stop cars and other vehicles in their tracks (microjam), has a bullet proof ...

Advantages: it brings back all those memeries Disadvantages: the episodes are not in the right order
this is a great box set. the box is well designed, and the inside is good to look at. once you put the disk in the player and listen to the music and see the car 'kit'. it does take you back to the past.
this was the show that put david hasselhoff on the map. although the acting is not the best nor is the some of the special effects, it does not matter as the stories and 'kit' make up for it.
For the time that it was made this was one on the best ... ...is still enjoyable. the thing that i dislike about this box set is that these episodes are not in the right order. there is no order in which you have to watch them but it would be nice to see them in orderr that it was meant to be in.
all the stories are about justice and doing the right thing, and that 'one man can make a difference'. micheal (david) with his talking car kit make sure that those who do wrong are caught and made to pay for their ...
