Before I begin I must fully admit that I am a HUGE Kiss fan. Why else would I have watched the film in the first place? It wasn't exactly a blockbuster. However, as a film fan, and often critic, I am able to be objective and shall attempt to be so.
Kiss meets the Phantom of the Park is best viewed as a spoof. I don't know if that was the intention, but if you try to take it seriously you will be very disappointed. For those of you who don't know, Kiss was one of the biggest bands in America in the 1970s and had a couple of hits in UK in the 1980s. Remember 'Crazy Nights'? And the awful, 'God Gave Rock 'n' Roll to You'? At their peak and now, because they are trying to relive their youth, Kiss donned very thick black and white makeup and Halloween costumes. They took on personas representing their outfits- Gene Simmons (the one with the long tongue) was the demon, Paul Stanley was Starchild (lame), Peter Criss was the cat, and Ace Frehley was Space Ace (or SpaceD Ace so his reputation suggests).
In the film the suggestion is that Kiss live in their makeup constantly because they are in fact these people with special powers, e.g. Paul Stanley has a fabulous bionic eye, real 70s Bionic-man-esque effects. The story goes that they are performing in a theme park and there are mysterious disappearances. It is in fact the ride designer stealing people and turning them into animatronics. He makes his own Kiss robots and uses them to get Kiss into trouble with the aim of taking over the park. It's very scary, as you can imagine. Kiss naturally save the day (I don't think I've spoilt anything there) and perform a fab show enjoyed by all. And one lucky woman gets to spend the whole film with Kiss, bitch.
My cynical tone suggests I hate the film, I don't, it's fab. The acting is really bad, the effects are trash and the story is pretty lame, however it is 70s-tastic and should be shown every bank holiday Monday at 6.30pm, much more entertaining than Jumanji!
Advantages: See the original Kiss in full make up kicking ass Disadvantages: Some dogdy acting, Peter Criss's voice is over dubbed by an actors voice,Because of the strict censor in the 70's in the U.S.A parts of the film where cut & the fight scenes have shopping mall music played over them. This video is hard to find now.
...is a must for any Kiss fan.
Starring Kiss(Ace Frehley,Peter Criss,Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley)Anthony Zerbe as the mad professer Dr.Abner Deveraux of the park who not only desgins the park rides but also makes human like androids in his work shop under the park,& Deborah Ryan who play's Melissa.
The story goes Kiss are playing at the park and as you can guess the park is packed with kids & girls in full Kiss make up!!
The park owner upsets Dr ... ...all this is going on Kiss turn up to play there gig.Dr Deveraux has plans to destory the park along with Kiss.
Kiss with there magic powers end up in a battle with Dr Deveraux. There is plenty of action in this film with a brilliant sound track and as you can guess Kiss win the day. ...
