basically a decent guy. Sure he's a petty thief who skates through life on a shaky cocktail of dog-eared charm and cockeyed optimism but he wants to do the right thing. He just doesn't know how exactly. Harry's perpetual bad luck takes a turn for the better when he and his partner are doing some after-hours Christmas "shopping" at a New York City toy store and the security alarm breaks up the party. In making his frantic getaway from the cops Harry inadvertently stumbles into an audition for a Hollywood detective movie and faster than you can say Jack Robinson the producer flies him to Los Angeles for a screen test. Thrust into the cutthroat world of L.A.'s pros cons losers and wannabes Harry is teamed with tough-guy private eye Perry van Shrike (Val Kilmer) AKA "Gay Perry " to prepare him for his screen test. Gay Perry is ruthless relentlessly tough and - you guessed it - gay. He also has little patience for Harry who tries out his acting skills by passing himself off as a detective. It seems like nothing short of destiny when the thief-trying- to-be-an-actor- impersonating-a-detective crosses paths with Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan) an aspiring actress who needs his help. Inspired by her hero Jonny Gossamer a fictitious hard-boiled private eye featured in a series of pulp detective novels Harmony moved to Hollywood to pursue her dreams...but a few years and a lot of rejections later she's facing the harsh reality that her best days may be behind her. When the mysterious suicide of Harmony's sister intersects with a seemingly unrelated case that Harry and Gay Perry are investigating they suddenly find themselves embroiled in a real-life murder mystery. Bodies surface and re-surface...long-buried family secrets erupt in present-day mayhem...and what began as a free trip to L.A. may result in Harry's one-way ticket to the city morgue. If he's going to stay alive and become the hero that Harmony needs him to be Harry will have to convince a reluctant Gay Perry to help him solve the case. He'll need to channel Jonny Gossamer's tough-as-nails swagger. And a little dose of luck - or is it fate? - wouldn't hurt either.

Advantages: Smart, hip and uber cool! Disadvantages: none at all
(Rules of Attraction) registering any impact with me. Question is can he re-ignite his glory days where he was earning over $1 million a script?
Well as far as I am concerned the answer is yes! KissKissBangBang brings the Lethal Weapon style buddy movie slap bang into the new century. With a wry, sardonic narration by Downey that not only follows cinematic traditions but continually apologises for doing so! I dislike the term post modern but it really does fit KKBB so well.
KKBB is a modern 'film noir' without the darkness, a 30's PI movie without the world weary PI (Private Investigator) and is the most enjoyable action film I have seen in ages. Though to call it an action film is a misnomer, it does have a lot of action but it is a lot more than just that.
KKBB is the story of Harry (Downey), a useless burglar who, while ...
Advantages: Funny, full of action, great acting, good soundtrack Disadvantages: None I can think of
I hadn't really seen this film advertised that much but read the description on the back and it sounded quite intriguing so I added it to my online rental list then forgot about it. So, when it appeared on my doormat I couldn't entirely remember why I had added it but me and my boyfriend had nothing better to do last Friday evening so we watched it. I have to say, I'm really glad we did as I thought it was brilliant.
Writer/Director Shane Black, the writer of very successful films such as The Lethal Weapons and The Long Kiss Goodnight, hits the jackpot with a plot that has a twist at every corner, the 'not so obvious' hero and several dead people!
***The Plot***
We begin with Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr) in a toy store. It is clearly late at night and he is on the phone to a young sounding boy who we soon find out is his ...

+ The DVD +
The DVD was released on the 13th March and now retails at the price £4.99 on Amazon. In HMV and Virgin, it slightly more expensive in their sales.
I feel that £4.99 is a bargain for this fantastic film. Also you can buy the soundtrack on Amazon for £13.99 or used for £6.76.
+ The Extras +
The DVD hasn't really got many extras, just the commentary, trailers and the usual gag reel. "Where are the deleted scenes?" I cried when I got the DVD. Also there are 29 scene selections but no chapter insert and you can change the DVD into French or Spanish dubbing and also there are subtitles
The highlight of the extras is the commentary done by Black, Kilmer and Downey. It's just classic and definitely worth listening to as Kilmer doesn't take any seriously and it's quite funny to listen to their comments.

DVD Description
Screenwriter Shane Black of LETHAL WEAPON fame makes his directorial debut with this film noir gem. Robert Downey, Jr, stars as Harry Lockhart, a petty thief who stumbles into acting and soon finds himself in Los Angeles, auditioning for a film role as a private detective. To help Harry prepare, his new agent arranges for him to shadow real-life P.I. Perry van Shrike, also known as 'Gay Perry', (Val Kilmer). But when Perry takes Harry along on a routine job for a mystery client, the two men witness the disposal of a dead body, and the game suddenly intensifies. Adding to the intrigue is Harmony Faith Lane (Michelle Monaghan), a beautiful and smart-as-a-whip wannabe starlet with whom Harry is so smitten that he pretends to be a real detective. Soon Harry, Perry, and Harmony are tangled in a life-threatening web of murder, deception, and treachery. Downey is a delight, exhibiting perfect comic timing while infusing Harry with just enough heart to show that, despite appearances, he really is a good guy. Kilmer is the ideal buddy for Downey, playing the no-nonsense private investigator Perry with the right mixture of machismo and stereotypical Tinseltown superficiality. As Harry's dream girl, Harmony, Monaghan embodies the good girl whose dreams are looking increasingly unattainable and who has clearly been around the block more than a couple of times. Top-notch performances combined with Black's wickedly amusing banter and a plot laden with twists and turns make this action-thriller a treat.
