King Creole, Is possibly my favourite of all the Elvis movies, it really shows Elvis at his best, a young raw talent. maybe not the best actor the world has ever known, but a breath glimse at a talent that had the world all shook up.
The film was made before Elvis put to much faith in the scandolous colonel Tom Parker.
Quite a dark dramatic movie for Elvis compared to the more cheesy romantic beach slush that was churned out at later dates.
In this movie, Elvis plays a young rebel character Danny Fisher, a struggling singer who has a knack for ending up on the wrong side of the law and a nasty habit for brawling. coming to terms with the death of his mother, Danny vows not to get into any more trouble and manages to land a gig singing at a hip nightclub in the French Quarter of New Orleans for local mobster Maxie Fields played by (Walter Matthau), who soon demands that Danny performs exclusively for him. But Danny starts to take a shine to Fields bit of fluff (Carolyn Jones) and her advances, hence putting his own relationship with the girl he truly loves Nellie (Dolores Hart),at risk, and his own neck on the line by upsetting and chancing his arm against the Mobster.
plenty of action and bar room brawls, as well as some of Elvis's better songs "Trouble" and "King Creole" . A true Elvis rock & roll film and a real must for any fan.
The Dvd was released in 2002 and is readily available from all good outlets, and can be picked up quite easily at a bargain price at online auction sites, so shop around.

The song 'Frankfurt Special' never caught on, but I felt was the best song in the film. It was recorded in 1960 with the Jordanairs as back-up for use in the movie and the album. The rock beat is very up-tempo with excellent finger-picking guitar work and drum backing...
