killing everybody want to be in on the action. Especially when the plan is to steal million in a racetrack robbery scheme in which "no one will get hurt." But despite all their careful plotting Clay and his men have overlooked on thing: Sherry Peatty (Marie Windsor) a money-hungry double-crossing dame who's planning to make a financial killing of her own...even if she has to wipe out Clay's entire gang to do it! Paths Of Glory: Safe in their picturesque chateau behind the front lines the French General Staff passes down a direct order to Colonel Dax: take the Ant Hill at any cost. A blatant suicide mission the attack is doomed to failure. Covering up their fatal blunder the Generals order the arrest of three innocent soldiers charging them with cowardice and mutiny. Dax a lawyer in civilian life rises to the men's defense but soon realizes that unless he can prove that the Generals were to blame nothing less than a miracle will save his clients from the firing squad. The Killer's Kiss: Stanley Kubrick's second film Killer's Kiss made the world take notice. The young moviemaker won acclaim for this dazzling film noir about a struggling New York boxer (Jamie Smith) whose life is imperiled when he protects a nightclub dancer (Irene Kane) from her gangster boss (Frank Silvera). "Using his camera as a sandpaper block Kubrick has stripped away the veneer from the prizefight and dancehall worlds " the New York Mirror proclaimed. Killer's Kiss not only lends considerable insight into future Kubrick classics - such as The Killing and Full Metal Jacket - but is also a remarkable film in its own right: the boxing match may be the most vicious this side of Raging Bull and the famed final battle remains an action tour-de-force.

The film follows a boxer that is down on his luck who has an encounter with a mafia boss's woman who lives opposite his apartment when he sees her being assaulted.
He intervenes and gets himself on the wrong side of the mob. I won't say any more as I don't want to give too much of the plot away.
The plot is fairly standard film noir, it is a little slow getting started and pick up pace after the first fifteen minutes. However, this does give you change to get to know the characters and sets the mood of the film.
The acting in the film is good, the actors didn't go onto great things like the director did.
I know that the film was shot silent then overdubbed, Kubrick made a remarkable job with the voices and sound effects, although it is obviously overdubbed in some scenes. The voice of the actress is not the same as the one who is acting. Radio actress Peggy Lobbin was brought in to do the overdubs.
What I really enjoyed about the film was the feeling of really being in New York in the 1950's. Most of the film has a very crisp look. One particular shot that stands out is of the Brooklyn bridge.
The fight scene in the film had me instantly thinking of Raging Bull, it's easy to see where Martin Scorsese got his influences from. I know he is a Kubrick fan.
Another memorable scene is the dream sequence using negatives.
The ending is tense and exciting, there is an extended chase scene and a final showdown with the main gangster.
There are no special features on the DVD but I didn't expect there to be.
If you are a Kubrick fan or like old films then this is a good buy.

DVD Description
KILLER'S KISS, Stanley Kubrick's second feature-length film (though barely more than an hour), tells the story of a down-and-out boxer who falls for a comely female neighbor, leading to kidnapping and murder. Davey Gordon (Jamie Smith) has seemingly fought his last fight after being pummeled by Kid Rodriguez in the first round. Gloria Price (Irene Kane) is the hard-luck dame whose window faces Davey's. A dancer at Pleasureland, Gloria is trying to break up with her boss, Vincent Rapallo (Frank Silvera), but he would rather see her dead before allowing her to be with another man. So when Davey and Gloria start a steamy romance, it isn't long before murder enters the picture. Somewhat similar to his 1951 boxing documentary, DAY OF THE FIGHT, Kubrick's gritty black-and-white film noir, told in flashbacks, was shot on location in the streets of New York, effectively capturing the dark underbelly of the city at night. The camera rarely rises above Kubrick's waist, and the low-angle and ground shots give the film a menacing look. Kubrick believed that a film, like a symphony, must be created by a single individual, so he served as writer, director, editor, and producer on the project. The result is a small picture that provides a fascinating look into the early work of a man who would soon become one of the world's most important and influential filmmakers.
