Born in Glasgow and gradually gravitated back here again. Have a young family and an unhealthy obsession with books and films though food and drink aren't far behind!

Key Largo is one of Bogart's key films and marks another outing with his off-screen partner Lauren Bacall. He typically plays the reluctant hero and while he delivers a good performance, the true strength of the film, like so many others of this era, is in the ensemble playing. Bacall proves a good foil though she is less of a temptress than in the Big Sleep. Edward G Robinson burns up the screen as the mob boss forced to take refuge in the hotel (there is an element of things turning full circle here as Bogart used to play supporting roles to Robinson early in his career and got his big break in a role Robinson turned down) while Clare Trevor is excellent as the moll whose best years are behind her. Compared to today's films there's a stagey feel and a lack of action but Key Largo has layers and the story delivers a commentary on the society of the time which has more than a few echos in the modern day

I only watched this last week, not a bad review, but could have done with a bit more information. You might want to have a read of other film reviews on the site for ideas.
