Thatcher?s Katy:
I grew up really close to the Thatcher?s cider farm in Somerset and used to go there a kid quite a bit. Whenever we had a barbeque or something similar off we would go to buy a gallon ?jug? of cider. I loved the smell of the place as a kid and loved the rough and readiness of the shop which was just a farm building with barrels in and a little counter with a till.
It was always a bit exciting going to Thatcher?s because it was all part of the getting ready to party routine. Even as a small kid we would be given a tiny taster of sweet cider straight from the barrel and then be a little tipsy and giggly on the ride home. It probably isn?t allowed anymore but it never did us any harm and I rarely drink so it didn?t turn me into a raving alcoholic either. As a kid I used to occasionally be allowed a glass of cider ...

Advantages: A rare EP from Julianne with even rarer extras on Amazon! Disadvantages: Some of the tracks are a bit TOO different from her usual fare
Jules Et Jim was another of Julianne Regans side projects that she explored after the original break up of her more famous band All About Eve. After the end of Mice (my "Because I Can" album review is also available on here) she had a break for 1 year before hooking up with Jean-Marc Lederman in 1999, the band as an entity only released 1 single (Swimming, which isn't on this release oddly enough) and this EP.
Julianne Regan wrote & performed all vocals (apart from one) whilst Jean-Marc Lederman played all the instruments.
So whats on Subtitles then?
01 - If Life Were A Movie.
There are lots of movie references in this, I'll admit I can't spot half of them. Its got a great upbeat chorus which really makes a good contrast to the down toned main verses. Theres lots of drums (a drum machine I assume) but the other instruments are ...
Advantages: Some good tracks, unique voice Disadvantages: Not as good as previous albums

DVD Description
Paul Verhoeven directed this film, a moving period drama, before he relocated to Hollywood. A true story set in 19th century Holland, Keetje Tippel is a young girl born into poverty whose mother takes her to work in a brothel. As men use her, so too, Katie decides, she can use them to obtain the social status she seeks. When she becomes the mistress of a young banker (Hauer), Keetje finds a foothold in the Dutch upper-class and uses it to wed one of the banker's wealthy friends. Once again, Verhoeven has crafted a riveting film where female sexuality is a weapon to be honed and used cunningly, as in BASIC INSTINCT, resulting in an erotic, yet disturbing, drama that takes a dim view of capitalism and male dominated societies.
