K-9 DVD
I personally own this DVD being a dog fan I love it, any dog lover especially those that are particular fans of German Shepard Dogs (Alsatian) should love it too. I have seen both this one and sequel to this K-9 11 and I have found this one to be better by far.
This film is produced by Universal, directed by Rod Daniel and written by Steven Seigel and Scott Myers. This film was first produced in October 1989
The Cast
The main actors within the film
James Belushi, plays Dooley a cop working to solve drug crime but not succeeding very well on his own.
Mel Harris, plays Tracey she is Dooley's girlfriend who gets left with little attention whilst her partner spends all his time and commitment fighting crime Koton, plays Jerry-Lee a German Shepard Dog trained in police work who soon becomes Dooley's partner, Koton in real life was also a police dog who was sadly killed whilst working in 1991.
Pruitt Taylor Vince, plays Benny The Mule well known in the illegal
drug circles Dooley wants information from him and about the drugs involved.
The cast above come together to give this film an excellent story line, where a Cop and a trained police dog come together to fight criminals. Making an excellent team together both have been doubted by the force can they work hard enough together to be recognized that they are doing a brilliant job. Jerry-Lee becomes part of the family fitting in well and goes down really well with Dooley's girlfriend Tracy and soon they become a family together all though Jerry-Lee gets a little jealous and thinks he should have more of Tracey's time to himself. They come into contact with nasty criminals putting their lives at risks throughout coming close to death at times. It is their mission to stop some very well known drug dealers/shippers from doing their illegal business as they gather evidence and information together their bond becomes closer.
It's an action packed story line with some romance, funny scenes and passion it has it all to keep the audience interested and fixated to the screen.
Acting, Quality & Soundtrack
The acting within the film is brilliant and it can be seen a lot of training has gone into the dog used to play the part of Jerry-Lee all the actors are amazing making them film realistic and something the audience can really get into and feel part of. For an older film the quality of this film is amazing obviously none of the modern day effects and features but this doesn't make the film any less enjoyable a truly original film. There isn't much in the way of soundtracks within this film but when there are any they are fitting to the moment. Sound quality is also very good no fuzziness or faded sound throughout the film. The newer DVD version has certainly made a big improvement to the quality.
Availability & Price
I have not seen these DVD in shops all though you might see it on the lower priced trays in supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco as they often have older DVDs in stock. If it is not available from either of these then the best place to source it would definitely be the internet there are many sites that sell older DVDs. Another good place to try would be rental stores as they sometimes sell ex rentals for bargain prices.
I would imagine that this could be bought for around £5-£10 if not less now, I think I paid £15 for my copy of this film not long after it was available on DVD.
Few Other Bits
This film is rated a 12 so it suitable for persons of 12years and over only, I would say this is because there is a bit of violence and mild language and some mild sexual suggestive scenes in this film.
The run time of this film is 1 hour and 35minutes
There are subtitle available in English, Czech, Hungarian, Greek, Turkish, Arabic and Romanian, however the only language throughout the film is English other languages are only available as subtitles
My Opinion & Recommendation
As said above I love this film I enjoy watching it over and over being a dog love it is very much my kind of film. I would definitely recommend it to others maybe not children as it is rated as a 12 as said above all though if parents watch it first they mind find it suitable for their children it depends of personal preference.
