The Story (Paradise Lost)
Wonder Woman / Diana returns to Themyscira to find all her Amazon sisters turned into stone. She then discovers that the perpetrator is Felix Faust, a professor of archeology. He used a special amulet to turn them into stone. The amulet had a figure of a medusa carved into it.
Faust then strikes a bargain with Wonder Woman that he would free her mother in exchange for giving him the parts of the key to open the gateway to Tartarus. Batman does his research and finds out that Felix Faust was a professor of archeology. He was kicked out of the university for having heretical ideas. Wonder woman tells the league about the history of her mother and Hades and about the key.The other league members help Wonder Woman gather the key components.
Faust despite the league's efforts is successful in opening the gateway to Tartarus.Hades then emerges from Hades in ominous battle armor. Being a god, Hades is strong and durable. He also has powers such as the command of fire. He then proceeds to approach Hippolyta and recall their relationship of years past. He is then surprised to see that she has a daughter now in Wonder Woman / Diana. Felix Faust asks for his reward and Hades betrays him and makes him wither in old age.
Can the Justice League stop a god? Or will they succumb to the power of Hades, God of the Underworld?
The Verdict (Paradise Lost)
-The story was great. Its shows the bond between mother and daughter between Hippolyta and Diana.
-The story was well written and impacts future Justice League Episodes. It is unlike the old Superfriends episodes which usually have no bearing towards future episodes. Expect to see Felix Faust and Hades in future episodes.
-I found Faust to be annoying. He was cowering too much behind his magic.
-I grew to appreciate Wonder Woman's persona as it showed her to be a person of compassion and devotion.
-There is no honor among thieves. Hades betrays Faust.
The Story (Warworld)
Superman and the Martian Manhunter are captured and brought to Warworld. Manhunter escapes but Superman remains a captive and is forced to combat similar to an arena type combat. First he faces Draaga who is the champion of Warworld. He beats Draaga but refuses to kill him. This angers Mongul, the ruler of the planet and threatens to use his robots to kill Superman.
Fortunately Manhunter is able to rally the crowd to save Superman. Mongul and Superman have a discussion that Mongul is giving the people of his planet fights instead of giving them food and medicine. Mongul doesn't care and tells Superman to throw the fight or he will blow up Draaga's home planet.
The inmates admire Superman and offer to let him escape. He gives the slot to Draaga and Draaga swears revenge on superman for not giving him an honorable death. Meanwhile Hawkgirl and Lantern try to find Superman and eventually end of Warworld.
They destroy Mongul's doomsday device and Superman beats up mongul. He then gives Draaga the chance to pummel the dictator. Mongul is down for the count and Draaga offers the planet's leadership to Superman but he refuses and says that its not how you die that is honorable but its how you live.
The Verdict
-Warworld is a nice episode with a lot of good fight scenes.
-Superman however looks too depowered in the episode. I have seen him beat giant robots and even Braniac's ship but he can't beat small robots?
-Superman does not use all of the various powers he has.
-Mongul appears too weak as a villain. He is not an even match for Superman unlike Darkseid.
-The episode reflects the real world where many of our political leaders don't actually care for their constituents.
-I found the lover's quarrel between Hawkgirl and Lantern to be amusing.
-The episode is good but lacks a strong villain to be great.
