I found the film Just Like Heaven very enjoyable to watch, it’s a very light hearted easy watching film, its a romantic comedy and the twists are so good. I didn’t find this film totally predictable but obviously with all films like this you expect a certain degree of predictability.
We start this film in the serenity of an amazing garden with Dr Elizabeth Masterson (Reese Witherspoon) in the centre then the bubble bursts and Elizabeth wakes up in the hospital where she works, shes been asleep as she has been working solidly for 23 hours because she is aiming for a promotion. After her shift Elizabeth is expected at her sisters, Abby, where she is being set up on a blind date. Upon leaving the hospital Elizabeth calls Abby to let her know she is running late then we have the accident. We now meet David Abbot (Mark Ruffalo) who is flat hunting. It sounds crazy but he is looking for an appartment that is fully furnished but the most important thing is that he has a comfy sofa. (the sofa scenes were quite funny). Davids hunt for the perfect sofa is not going very well but as he is about to give up his search an advertisement for a flat finds him with the help of a gust of wind. Here he finds his flat. David seems to want to wallow in self pity and he is always sitting on the perfect sofa drinking beer. Then one day in his new appartment Elizabeth shows up and tells him to leave her apartment. They argue over whos flat it is, during the argument David follows Elizabeth into the next room but she disappears. David gets extra locks on the door and carries on with his drinking on the sofa. After a few days Elizabeth comes back. He then comes to the conclusion that she is the ghost of someone who used to live in his appartment. David enrols the help of people who say they can get rid of nuwanted spirits, eg a priest andsome ghostbusters. With none of these working and Elizabeth annoying him until he agrees to her request David reluctantly goes along with her request to help her find out who she was, and here follows the predictable part of the story where a closeness forms between Elizabeth and David during their mission to find who she was.
I thought this film was really good and great fun to watch, it was very entertaining. The characters were well written and very likeable. In the list of my favourite parts of the film was the bit where David has hired people to remove the spirit of Elizabeth from the appartment and a first aid scene in a restaurant, there were many other scenes that I loved but I don’t want to give away too much of the story. If you are after a film to chill out to and enjoy then I definatly would recommend this heart warming story.
