I can't believe it has taken me this long to review this film. Jurassic Park has been my favourite film ever since the first time i saw it! As far as i'm concerned nothing comes close to it in terms of my taste in movies. Everything about this film grabs me, enthrawls me, sucks me in and totally fills my heart with adventure!
♦♦♦The Plot ♦♦♦
The story is set in the modern times of today (well actually in 1993) about a scientist named John Hammond (played by Richard Attenborough) who invests all his time and money into developing a prehistoric park of dinosaurs from his clever idea of developing dino-eggs by sucking the blood from mosquitos found buried deep underground from 65 million years ago.
The story revolves around the park being tested by a group of people - a group of dinosaur scientists and Hammond's two grandchildren - who set off in two jeeps set on tracks into the unknown!
The film turns into reality as we see the eagerly awaiting enthusiasts drive through the giant gates of Jurassic park into a prehistoric land of mystery.........
(I'm not going to expand on anymore of the plot, as I do not want to give away any spoilers)

This film is amazing in every dimension - the plot, the suspense, the acting and the effects are all phenomenal. Movie making as come along a lot in recent years but the special effects and geniusness around this film still shines out just as well as more recent films. Spielberg is at his best in this film - he does not dissappoint.
What i loved abot this film is the sense of adventure and magic that it portrays. Every scene drives you with suspense wondering what is going to happen next and the pure "reality" of it is so believable. Yes it may be a little far-fetched but what if this really could happen in real life? I found myself wanting to be in the story - and experiencing the depths and deeps of a dinsosaur jungle.
Even the location was the perfect portrayal of eerieness and adventure. As the helipcopter flies into the mists of the jungle you immediately become intrigued as to what this hidden between all that green.
As for the believability of it all. It is a science fiction film and that is it! FICTION being the main word here. The film seem to come across as a potentially true-life story that "could" happen yet the chances are extremely minutely slim if not impossible. The film explans how dinosaur DNA was extracted from deeply buried mosquitos. The reality of it is that the chance of finding a 65million year old mosquito is slim in itself, and to find one that has actually bitten a dinosaur before its death is even slimmer! And that is just for "one" species of dinosaur let alone 20 or more that the film has portrayed. This is the only unbeleivable point i had about this film.
The special effects in this film are amazing. The dinosaurs look incredibly real and do not even look computer generated. The animation and artistic geniusness in this film simply blow you away. Even the sound effects were incredible. The dinosaurs' sounds were very well mastered. The roar of the T-Rex was frightening and created an echo effect making it all the more adventurous and wilderness-like. The clickety sound of the small raptor dinosaurs were extremely memorable. When my cat sees a fly ouside the window she makes a strange noise just like the raptors and it always reminds me of them when i hear it. That alone must prove the originality and beleivablilty of such good sound effects.
The film is made so that Jurassic Park is like a masive zoo/safari park and the dinosaurs are portrayed more like animals instead of frightening monsters. This makes the film more loveable and adventurous as the crew engage into helping the dinosaurs.
Unfortunately there was little character development in this movie, I don't see this as a negative point because too much character development in this type of film would take away what the film is really about - dinosaurs.
The acting quality in this film I found very mixed. Sam Neill's character was played well as were the two grandchildren - which I found very surprising as I often find child acting to be fairly poor but the actor who played Lex was particularly well played - as her facial expressions of fright were extremely realistic! However, i was quite dissappointed in Laura Dern's acting. I found her to be dull and too neutral. But that may be a personal opinion of her actual character rather than Dern herself.
The soundatrack in this film is what brings the adventure and intense emotional feelings to this film. It brings a sense of mystery to the story as the helicopter is flying into the mist and depths of the island, and the same again as we see Dinosuars roaming free amonst a free and uncontrolled land. Later, the music captures us again with the evilness and power that these dinosaurs have over humans!! Without John William's music, these emotions would have been lost!
The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and is no doubt one of best. The originality and intrigue that Spielberg creates is breathtaking. I feel it is only too unfortunate that the two sequels were not as well put together as this is a fantastically magical film!
The is by far my favourite film of all time, and even though I am huge movie fan seeing 4 to 5 movies a week, no film to date as even come close to this one!

cool review, but dang i hated this film, not because it was rubbish, just because there was something creepy and yet cheesy at the same time about it, lol i was very young when i saw this but i still had a certain sarcasm when watching movies that annoyed me and i always used to think to myself even below the age of 10, damm that girl is crap at acting her brother was much better lol, but still i dont mind watching it from time to time when its on tv, good review : )

Great review. I loved this film, unfortunately the rest of the family don't so have only seen it in it's entirety once.
