Being an avid film fan I have watched all of the Jurassic Park movies. Jurassic Park is full of action and suspense classified as an action/sci fi film it crosses all of those borders and goes beyond. It is intense and edgy, but dark and thrilling. My soul mate, husband also loves watching Jurassic Park and although we weren't together when it first came out we have watched all of the series together a number of times.

If you want to own the Jurassic Park series you can buy the whole set from Ebay for just over £15 this includes the whole trilogy of them. Steven Spielberg created this wonderful series and has managed to make each dinosaur more realistic in each series. Although in the 3rd series Steven Spielberg only played the role of executive director we can still see the influences of him. It was Joe Johnston (October Sky and Jumanji) that directed Jurassic Park 3. The two also worked together in Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark

The 3rd series was released on 11th December 2001 and the whole complete series at around the same time. You really need to watch the complete trilogy to be able to understand where the story is going and where it has been. The 3rd series carries on 4 years after the second film finished.

Although the story isn't deep or intelligent it meets the needs of those that want to experience a world where dinosaurs exist. There is little characterisation or acting skills, but if you want to watch something easy on the brain then you will love this. It doesn't require much concentration to follow the story line and is a pleasant look at how dinosaur's existed. It is the special effects that make Jurassic Park special. The use of special effects demonstrates how much we have moved forward in the technology based world that we live in today. This film makes you look back through the history of films and see how much we have progressed. It is interesting to watch dinosaur's being brought to life before your eyes. The close up's of the dinosaurs seem life like and realistic. It is hard to believe you are watching a movie even though it is not as good as the first Jurassic Park. The first Jurassic Park, in my opinion, will live as legend. If you didn't know that this was computer-generated by Industrial Light & Magic or animatronics created by Stan Winston you would think that these dinosaurs were real.

This is something that all ages would enjoy even very young children would find the series fascinating and mesmerising although maybe scary. I think that Jurassic Park stretched the boundaries of special effects and went beyond that, bringing dinosaurs to life. If I had to choose any reason why I think Jurassic Park was so successful it would be due to the fact that the film makers had a big budget they were able to produce stunning special effects that made you sit on the edge of your seat. Also the public awareness of this film was magnified by advertisements on buses and on the television. I know that because of this certain people had higher expectations of the film expecting it to have a deeper storyline when in fact, they were disappointed.

The park was created by a rich entrepreneur who designed an adventure park on a deserted island. The dinosaurs were created by the dinosaur DNA found in mosquito's encased in amber that their last meal was dinosaur blood. Pretty gruesome, but it makes for a possible reality. I think that because it was a possibility it appealed to more people because it could come true even though it was a bit far fetched. Palaeontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) soon changes his mind about going back to a dinosaur infested island. The actual details about the dinosaurs in the film are supposed to be correct.

Jurassic Park III is probably the only film of the series that gets the balance right. Although these films were never meant to have deep storylines they should have been like Jurassic Park III. Jam packed with dinosaur action and a length that was neither too long nor short at 90 minutes. Dialogue was also not over used and this was a good feature because there was more action.

Jurassic Park III showed the return of Sam Neil playing Dr Alan Grant. He is persuaded to follow the Kirby's (William Macy and Tea Leoni) to Site B on a low flying tour. Unfortunately for them they end up landing. Dr Grant soon finds out that the tour was planned to help him find their missing son. If you are the type of person that wants to believe in a film perhaps this isn't the film for you. I mean a 14 year old boy who can survive on his own in a world where dinosaurs exist? Well… that would just be miraculous.

Although Jurassic Park does have a weak storyline along with weak lines like "They weren't making dinosaurs; they were playing God." At least the lines were not overdone in Jurassic Park III. I also enjoyed the introduction of the massive monster called Spinosaur definitely competition to the enormous T Rex.

Although Jurassic Park III won't win awards for the best storyline it did pack a punch of creative dinosaur action. I enjoyed some of the DVD extras that seemed based on the film's special effects.

The disc begins with the option to choose the language of your choice for the menus and subtitles. In one of the features Steven Spielberg says, "It's more than just running from dinosaurs, there's a lot of human drama in this one," The preview on this disc spends most of its time looking at how the actual film was made including how the dinosaurs were created. It doesn't spend much time looking at characters.

Sam Neill states at the beginning of this feature "I don't think of these things as puppets, I think of them as sentient beings,". I can actually understand where he is coming from when he says this as when you are an actor you have to see the dinosaurs as real otherwise it won't appear realistic to the viewers. When you work with puppets you have to believe in them otherwise they will appear as dead to other people. Have you ever seen a really bad puppeteer who acts as if it is more about them than the puppet? The puppet appears limp and they forget to lift the hands or make movements in a realistic way.

The menu is called "New Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park III" and is just as the title claims it to be a look at the new dinosaurs of Jurassic Park III. It is almost 8 minutes in length and apart from taking a look at the dinosaurs it also talks about the research that went into the making of the film. Other features look at the work of Stan Winston as a model maker and the rest of his team. This part of the feature is labelled "A Tour of Stan Winston's Studio". . I was interested to see how the wire frames were made for the CGI dinosaurs and the short interview with Jack Horner Palaeontologist. We also see some of the big set pieces although not in depth. There is not much time spent on extra features, but good enough to give a decent background into what went into the making of the film. I also enjoyed watching Dinosaur Turnable it is really fun where you get to watch a computer 3d model of all the different types of dinosaur in the film. I enjoyed watching that part of the features and how each model rotates in a complete 360 degrees. It also featured a computerised human character called Billy.

"Behind The Scenes" features 3 different scenes from the film including, "Spinosaurus Attacks the Plane", "Raptor Attacks" and "The Lake". I also found the real time dinosaur dig in Montana very interesting. You also find the usual theatrical trailers for all three films. There is also "Storyboard to feature" -"Jurassic Park Archive" - there is also production art, poster concepts, cast/crew biographies, Universal recommendations and some DVD Rom web links.

Overall even though the film was probably not as good as the first it is still an exciting roller coaster ride to the end. It has a better balance compared with the other two films and rounds off the series well. I think if they had brought out any more Jurassic Park's it would have got too much. I think they were pushing it a bit with the third, but you know it wasn't all bad. There was a lot of fun and humour as well as thrills. The ending wasn't as I'd expected it wasn't a strong ending at all. There are some interesting features although you can tell that not much work or thought went into the features. It also depends on whether you bought the newer version of the film or the older version as to what features you will get. Overall a monster of a film I hope it doesn't eat you!
