This film is based primarily around David Rice, played by Hayden Christensen. As a teenager David discovers he has a strange power - he can jump from place to place, essentially teleporting himself to different locations. He begins by using this power to rob banks, using the money to get himself a luxury apartment.
Unfortunatley for David, religious Roland (Samuel L Jackson) knows about the jumpers and hates them, believing that only God should have the power to move like they do. He considers it to be his job to kill all of them, and begins to track them down with the help of his group, the Paladins. David is not remotely discreet with his jumping, sometimes jumping right in front of people, and so it does not take very long before people start to notice. Luckily for David, the first person to catch up with him is another jumper, Griffin (Jamie Bell). Griffin considers himself to be a Paladin Slayer and mockingly fills David in on some of the information he has about them - despite this, he dislikes David and has no real intention of helping him out. Unfortunatley for David, he finds out about all of this just when he thinks he's got things exactly where he wants them - his life long love interest Millie (Rachel Bilson) is with him on holiday in Rome, and he thinks things are finally working out perfectly.
Overall, this movie was quite bland. It seems hard to say that when there is such an intense storyline and so much going on, and yet something was just missing from this movie.
The CGI in this film was fantastic. David's jump points are in some stunning locations such as on top of the sphinx, and these locations do look amazing. Overall the picture quality was very well done and it all looked very realistic.
One of the biggest drawbacks for me was Hayden Christensen. Attractive as he may be, he is a very average actor, and despite all the things his character was doing he still seemed to be very dull because of this. Hayden is not an actor that draws me in in the slightest, and it was quite hard to care about his character. Rachel Bilson was equally average, and her character too is quite irritating so it is hard to really care about what's going on with her. Jamie Bell on the other hand did a great job at Griffin. He's an actor I have never really noticed before, but I felt that he brought a lot of personality to the character of Griffin, coming across as very quirky and exactly how I felt the role should be played.
I'm not entirely sure what was missing in this movie, but unfortunatley, it gets quite boring. Graphically it's fantastic, none of the actors are truly awful, and the storyline idea is interesting. Despite scenes being action packed, the movie as a whole just wasn't that interesting and seemed to drag on quite a bit in places. I would recommend this as it is an interesting idea and very visually stunning, but overall it isn't something I plan on buying or watching again.
