Advantages: Ok effects Disadvantages: Everything overshadowed by the effects
If ever a film existed purely to showcase the CGI effects industry then this is it. Forget story, forget characters, and just expect some cutting edge(?) effects.
The story is definitely a secondary thought but for what it's worth here goes: Young Alan (suffering from bullies) discovers a mysterious boardgame and proceeds to play it with his friend...but each role of the dice causes strange things to happen up until Alan is sucked away into the ... ...two orphaned kids who now live in the old home. The story of Alan comes to light and the game must be finished, with yet more strange events spewing forth from the enchanted game...
Robin Williams once more delves into his collection of small boy personnas and gets to act the clown again, but unlike the overly sentimental films like Jack, Mrs Doubtfire etc., keeps away from the sickly sweet slush and emerges with far more respect. The rest of the ...

Advantages: enjoyable fun Disadvantages: no sequel yet
This is a classic movie that anyone could watch over and over again. It is full of eye catching surprises, horrifying phenomenon, excitement and is all just one great laugh. It is funny to think you can get all this from a movie that is based on a game called "Jumanji". It is based on a little boy called "alan parish" who hears a sound, like a constant thumping, in a construction site near wehre he lives. The sound comes from the board game Jumanji, ...

Advantages: Good Story, Great Special Effects Disadvantages: May Be Frightening For Children
...Bradley Pierce and Bonnie Hunt, Jumanji is a thrilling family adventure film, which is packed with magical special effects. It was released in 1996, and still remains one of my all-time favourites. The story begins in 1869 when a mysterious chest is buried in the woods. The movie then flashes forward to 1969, when a young boy called Alan (Williams) finds the chest and upon opening it, discovers the board game 'Jumanji. He takes it home and starts ... ...amazement, the game pieces start moving by themselves. The next minute the room is filled with bats, and with Jumanji's magical powers, Alan is transported into the game, where he remains for many years until two children, Judy (Dunst) and Peter (Pierce) free him by playing the game themselves. But the story doesn't end there. Now they have to find Sarah, so they can finish the game they started 26 years ago, in order to break the spell of 'Jumanji'. ...

...find a board game called Jumanji and roll the dice, and all hell begins to break loose. Giant mosquitoes swarm through the air. Mischievous monkeys rampage through the house, raiding the fridge and then commandeering a police car for a joyride. A surly lion chases them until they trap it in a bedroom. Enter Robin Williams. He is the adult version of the little boy who disappeared; it seems that he got trapped inside the board game and his playmate ... ...description sounds unappetising, that's because Jumanji is a shrill and boring misfire. Directed by Joe Johnston, a technical wizard best known for the Disney hit Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, it clearly aspires to the one-damned-thing-after-another outrageousness of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Jurassic Park. But the film it most closely resembles is Hook, Steven Spielberg's clunky, junky, emotionally barren Peter Pan movie — and not just because Williams ...
