Advantages: Stallone lovers will love Sly. Disadvantages: Judge Dredd lovers may not.
...judged!" - Joseph Dredd.
Judge Dredd as you've never seen him before. This is because the 1995 movie, directed by the Englishman Danny Cannon, breaks not one, but two of 2000 A.D's golden rules. Allow me to explain. Comic book hero, Judge Joseph Dredd, never removes his helmet! Yet within 10 minutes of cellulose exposure that's exactly what he does, revealing the chiselled features of the man formerly known as Rocky. And what's wrong with that I ... ...and the fine figure of Judge Hershey (Diane Lane doing her role justice - hey a pun!). And again, I say what the hell. What's an action movie without a snog at the end? (There's no need to answer that). Judge Dredd was a movie I thoroughly enjoyed, regardless of my physical admiration for it's leading man, and I shall now explain why.

Advantages: You know what to expect with Judge Dredd Disadvantages: Just a pity that this isn't the Judge Dredd we all know.
Ah, Judge Dredd. A great British comic creation - he's been going for long enough that the date of 2000 AD, impossibly distant when he made his debut, has been and gone; and he's still incredibibly popular.
It was, I suppose, only a matter of time before Hollywood came knocking. You could just hear them thinking - they've got a ready-made audience, the plots, characters, and design are already there... All we need to do is add money, a big-name ... ...term loosely - involves breaking Judge Dredd's twin out of prison, to implicate Dredd and get him out of the way. The reason for this is to create a whole new generation of Judges, clones created through genetic engineering.
So far, so reasonable.
However, the liberties they took with, well, just about everything... I'm not that big a fan of the comic - certainly I don't read issues religeously - but even I could spot that they'd ripped up the ...

Advantages: well, its Dredd, jim, but not as we know him... Disadvantages: again, its Dredd ,jim.....but
The premise must have had the money men rubbing their hands with glee and for the first few minutes of the film i nodded with a slight misapprehension as i saw the bike, the gun, all to good effect. And then the moment that ruined the ENTIRE movie for me. Dredd, or should i say, stallone, for it was he and not our mealy mouthed hero, TOOK OFF HIS HELMET.
Now fans of the comic KNOW that Dredd never takes off his helmet, or flirts with Hershey, who ... ...Newcomers to Dredd got to 'enjoy' a second rate action romp with stallone, but in all honesty, Demolition Man did it much, much better.
The plot was a veiled attempt to intoduce Dredds evil clone and a plot to take over the world with more evil clones. There were some good bits. The ABC type robots and the EXCELLENT Mean Machine were all too brief, but did provide the only time in the whole movie when i suspended disbelief for one brief second to ...

A classic? Review ofJudge Dredd (Wide Screen)by
mathea
Advantages: Still watchable today Disadvantages: RUBBISH special effects
This movie has it all, the comic lines, the action, and a perfect cast (especially Stallone, whom you would assume the role was writen for --- Assante, makes for a real cool bad guy and ---- Rob Schneider as his comic sidekick). It is great, although I would have liked it bloodier although they havnt held it back for the kids. While I am about the bad stuff, I feel that the effects were rubbish lol although that didn't bother me that much I still ... ...bother me is that at 93 mins the film seems heavily cut it :( things like why does the labrtory at the end just start exploding 'n' why didn't I see one of the clones moving about?... Is That it? nope lol ....the ending could have been better too, but it is okay.
