Advantages: Exactly the same as the bible story. Disadvantages: Soundtrack - bad quality.
...to him as he believes Joseph is a gift from God. Joseph's nine brothers decide they've had enough of him so sell him into slavery. I know, heartwarming stuff, isn't it. Anyway, after a long series of events, Joseph is given a powerful position in Egypt (he's from Canan - don't know why the Egyptians are letting foregners rule their country) by the Pharoah, and saves Egypt from a great famine. I'm not going to spoil the ending for you but if you've ... ...ends.
Surprisingly, the films stays close to the bible. I am a former Christian so have spent hours reading my bible and from what I can remember, the stroy in the film is exactly the same as that in the bible. However, it's not just for Christians (& Jews - they have the same story in their bible, don't they?) - it can be enjoyed by anyone. For a bible story there isn't much reference to God. Again, this is a review of the film only - not the DVD.
This is another find from Oxfam's 3 for £1 selection. I bought this video by mistake, thinking it was The Prince of Egypt, which is a film I saw in primary school and loved! Nevertheless, I did like the film, despite it being the wrong one. Although it's a bible story, I still found it ok (if you don't know what I'm talking about, watch any other film of a bible story - they're all crap).

I'm not going to spoil the ending for you but if you've read the Bible (or specifically, Genesis), you'll know how it ends.

However, it's not just for Christians (& Jews - they have the same story in their bible, don't they?) - it can be enjoyed by anyone. For a bible story there isn't much reference to God. Joseph's father is pretty big on the idea of his son being a gift from God, and the Pharoah mentions something about God when Joseph's interpreting his dream. You could just enjoy it as a normal film.
From the previous film (The Prince of Egypt), I can remember there being a good soundtrack, but this film's music was, to put it bluntly, shit. Perhaps it's just the quality of the tape I've got but when a song was being sung I couldn't hear the words - the music was too loud and if someone was talking in the background I couldn't hear anything. Hopefully the sound is much better with the DVD.
Also, The Prince of Egypt was, in my opinion, a lot better than this film. I'm not sure how to explain it, it was just a better story. I much preferred the version of Jospeh where they were all singing. I think it was The Technicoloured Dream Coat. You'll probably notice, I like songs in films. In fact, that's why I love Disney films - you're guaranteed 5 songs in every Disney Classic. This is by DreamWorks, the bringers of Shrek, and they aren't that big on original music in their films.
Overall, the film is okay, with a story that stays true to the original and a soundtrack that could be better, I recommend it to everyone as it is a bible story but it doesn't throw religion in your face. It would be especially good for teaching young kids about the bible.
Advantages: It's nice enough, technically brilliant... Disadvantages: ... forgettable songs, weakish storyline, just overall nothing special
Since this came from the same team that brought us the brilliant Prince of Egypt, I had high hopes of Joseph: King of Dreams. Based loosely on the biblical story of Jacob's son Joseph, who had the God-given gift of being able to interpret dreams, became unpopular with his brothers because of his father's favouritism and wash shipped off to Egypt as a slave but rose to become second in the land only to Pharaoh, this animated movie makes a good stab at bringing the account to life but falls down in some aspects. Though it was released after Prince of Egypt, it follows an earlier timeline - the Israelites coming into Egypt as friends, before a new Pharaoh arose and made slaves of them, which is where Prince of Egypt begins.
The similarities between this and the earlier Prince of Egypt (which told the story of Moses leading ...
Advantages: Excellent family film, great animation and music Disadvantages: None
I watched and enjoyed 'The prince of Egypt' so when I heard that this was the next movie from the same filmakers I knew it was worth a watch.
The film is based on the biblical story of Joseph. He is the youngest of several (half) brothers and his fathers special favourite. He has the gift of being able to interpret dreams and see into the future. Unfortunately his brothers become jealous and sell him into slavery, fooling the father that he was devoured by wolves.
Joseph has many challenges in front of him and ultimately has to face the massive task of forgiving his brothers.
The animation is superb throughout, and the songs are enjoyable. The story is never boring and all my children; ages 3 , 6 and 9 were hooked from start to end. My husband and I enjoyed it too. It had just the right amount of emotion, drama, and was overall ...
