John Tucker Must die was my girlfriends choice of a good funny moive that she wanted to watch. I was told i had made the movie choice far to often recently and she would pick the movie she wants to watch.
This is not what i would call a movie with a string of high profile movies. Some of you will recognise the names. The main character John Tucker is played by Jesse Metcalfe ( Desperate Housewives). The rest of the cast have had a moive or two under their belt. The next recognisable member of the cast is Ashanti ( Singer, coach Carter). Then comes the rest.. Arielle Kebbel ( Grudge 2), Sophia Bush ( One Tree Hill, Stay Alive), Brittany Snow ( The Pacifier) and one more that i forgot which i can't believe i did is Jenny McCarthy ( Playboy, Scream 3).
The Storyline, well if anyone has seen any clips then you will have a fair idea. But for those of you who have not here it is:
Set in Highschool there is one man who stands out from the others, the best looking, top sports star. The man every woman in school wants to date
and the man every boy wants to be. That man is John Tucker ( Jesse Metcalfe).
Tucker has worked out a way of playing girls at school, he is not interested in dating one woman he wants do date as many as possible. He uses them and usually leaves them. The girls at the school do not no any of this ( which i find bizarre as when i was at school nothing was a secret!!). The film starts with Tucker dating three women at once, a cheerleader ( Ashanti), Vegan activist ( Sophia Bush) and a wanna be reporter ( Ariell Kebbel). He manages to keep all three apart until one frightful day, they all bump into each other and find out the truth.
As they try and tear into each other for being with Tucker, a new girl completly ignored by everyone at school steps in to help ( Kate - Brittany Snow). Kate helps the girls patch up their differences and realise that it is Tucker at fault and not them.
They decide they must work together to get Tucker back for what he has done to them and many other girls in this school.
They try many things to embarress Tucker and knock him off his throne..
As each attempt fails they devise a new scheme, they want to break his heart. So they decide to make Kate as popular as they are and make John Tucker fall for her and then have Kate drop him from a huge height.
If you read the movie description, many would think this sounds great or this sounds so silly. Well to be honest it is a little of both. I have eatched many of these US highschool films and laughed at the gags and thought other parts were stupid and unrealistic. But unfortunatley thats what we get from US highschool films.
If anyone has seen 'Shes All That', then this just changes Freddy Prince's character and changes him into an arse!.
When the girls hatch their plans to get Tucker back, they are the sort of things i would expect women have thought of doing to ex's. Some are very funny and would have laughed my socks off if that had happened to someone while i was at school. The movie gets silly a few times where these plans backfire on the girls... I can't give to much away but come on some of these would never backfire like this in the real world.
Like many movies in this genre there is a certain amount ( maybe a lot) of predictability towards the ending. And after about 25 minutes into it, you know what is going to happen at the end.
I personally enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it is amazing and a must see movie, but if you ever stuck for something to watch and you want something you don't need to concentrate on and will make you chuckle a few times then this is the moive to watch. Like i mentioned befoer i would place this movie in the same category as the following: Shes all that, ten things i hate about you, shes the girl.
I wouldn't say buying the DVD is the best option either, rental is probably best at most...
Like my profile states i do prefer Horrors and action films so maybe my interpretation of the film might be a little floored. Im just giving my honest opinion. If i was to sum this up in a few words i would say Not Bad, or it's ok. Nothing more nothing less than that.
Thanks for reading my review and i hope it was helpful.
