John Lennon - Imagine (Deluxe Edition)

One juxtaposition that screamed out to me and made me rewind to check it was a shot of John lying down, seen in profile on the ‘Imagine’ album cover, and then a shot of what appeared to be him lying dead. ‘I love you, yeah yeah, now and forever’ he sings. This is fine editing and a lovely – though immensely sad – piece of art. ‘Beautiful Boy’ is from the Double Fantasy again. It’s a lullaby filled with things a father might well say to his child. It is for their son, Sean, and has home-video footage of him playing with his mother by the sea. It has the prophetic line in it: ‘Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.’ ‘Watching the wheels go round’ is, yet again, from Double Fantasy, and has more footage of Lennon looking after his child. ..., a fantastic movie. The deluxe edition bursting at the seems with extras for lovers of the film. Disc 1: Audio Commentary with Nicholas Cage, containing comments from other members of the cast, director and producer. Disc 2: On the Range with the Navy Seals Dos and Don'ts of Hollywood Gunplay "The Rock" on Movie Magic Secrets of Alcatraz Special Effects: The Dive Sequence Outtakes Jerry Bruckheimer Interview (15 Mins) These extras provide an interesting and insightful look into an alredy 136 min film. A loved this film and extras and would reccommend them to new viewers to the film and exisiting lovers alike wanting to know a little more. Highly reccommended i could not fault it.... Read review

Advantages: An excellent source of material
Disadvantages: Makes me sad

...I'm not ashamed to say that I pretty much cry every time I've seen this film. This isn't a brown-nosing job, nor is it cynical, this is just a very well put together film on the remarkable man that was John Lennon. It does the predictable job of a documentary in outlining his childhood that was tough and sometimes unstable, and follows it through to his meeting with the rest of the boys who would make waves around the world. This is packed with home movies, archive news footage and interviews with those both close and distant from him, and some of the filming reveals the real John - the real John being someone infinitely human and with whom you are compelled to empathise. One scene in particular captures his feelings for the "lost souls" of this world. A young man is discovered in the grounds of his property. The police aren't called... Read review
