Isn't it wonderful when those child hood memories come back to you, and whats even better is when they are in snazzy updated (graphics and sound wise anyway) version, such as this dvd.
Fraggle rock, as most can remember was another genius creation from Jim Henson. For those out of the loop, or are lucky enough to be too young to remember, he's the same man who is responsible for the existence of the muppets, sesame street and of course - the fraggles!

This DVD contains 2 episodes which are run back to back which cuts on time and makes the whole running only 48 minutes in length. What they've done with the orginal format is quite displeasing actually, although this version is less fuzzy than the vhs one they've cut down the episodes so that theres no theme tune at the start of each one, nor is there any ending credits. This is a real shame, my favourite bit was always the amazingly up-beat and admittely catchy theme tune. I can never help but sing along. However they decided to cut it for some reason. And I'm not happy, I have to go the menu selector and run from the start each time I want my theme tune hit. Also the end credits have been removed - this also sucks as the special guests that they have in the odd episode goes now, unknown. I also like to know who does the voices for each puppet as it's intersting to find out some are done almost all by one person.
As previously mentioned, the dvd only contains 2 episodes from the first fraggle rock series. This is Volume one, and the first to be brought out in order for us fraggle rock lovers to be able to build thier collection, or to replace our dusty and cronky VHS versions. These first two installments feature the main fraggle rock charaters gobo, wembley and red where they get into quite a pickle but rely upon friendships and logic problem solving by means of teamwork to make everything better. The first episode is called: 'Capture The Moon' and the second is entitled 'Booberock'.
Overall a 4 star rating, despite the fact that the graphics have been improved so that they are not as gordy orblurry as the original episodes as shown on television, the fact that only two episodes are included on the DVD brings it down. Together with a lack of entertaining extras and possibly some more songs would bring it up to a 5 star. However you can never be too harsh on such a lovely and wonderful thing such as this inspirational, and one of my personal favourites of all time childrens televison. The teachings, songs and loveable characters means the Fraggle Roack and co. will all ways have a special place in my heart. Recommended to any other fraggle fans young and old. Even recommended to his generations little ones, as in my opinion is much better than the likes of the hoobs and bob the builder. Bring back fraggle rock!
