DVD Description
Features the romantic comedies JERRY MAGUIRE and INTOLERABLE CRUELTY. In JERRY MAGUIRE, the titular character is a slick, high-living sports agent who is tired of the shallowness of his profession and wants to live a more fulfilling, ethical life. But Jerry's new outlook doesn't mesh with his agency's ethics, and he is promptly fired. Jerry finds himself left with one ally, one client, and a long road ahead of him. Along the way he finds something more important than money--love. In INTOLERABLE CRUELTY, Miles Massey is an unhappy and lonely divorce lawyer who specialises in protecting the wealth of men who have been caught cheating by their wives. But when Marilyn Rexroth walks into his office, he thinks he might be in love, leading to a thrilling cat-and-mouse battle of the sexes in which audiences never know who's scamming whom and whether true love is ever attainable--especially when there is a lot of money at stake.
Advantages: The acting is uniformly excellent. Disadvantages: You might think the whole thing is ridiculous.
...A fable for the Nineties about a man who one night, suffers a crisis of morality, this is overall an effective piece of entertainment. Tom Cruise plays JerryMaguire, a sports agent who decides to do
more for his clients but when promptly tells the people with whom he works with about it, is invariably treated with fake applause and treated very quietly as a fool. It is only when he confronts Bob Sugar (a deliciously evil Jay Mohr) about his intentions, that his troubles start to get worse. Soon in a hilarious scene (and probably most discussed), he is forced in a race against time to save what remains of his clients. Of which in comes Rod Tidwell (a great performance from Cuba Gooding Jr.) which leads to him recruiting Dorothy Boyd (played by Renee Zellweger) into waht seems to be a doomed business venture when he seemingly has two...

Advantages: Emotional roller coaster, with hidden depth and provides much thought provoking material. It is a truly fantastic film. Disadvantages: Does lose some focus in the middle with such a complex mix of characters and emotional values. An extra 20 minutes to capture the how and why they feel this way would not have gone amiss.
...I may be biased because "JerryMaguire" is a film which encapsulates my life. I have a partner, I have a 'son' - not my own, and I love them both dearly and through this film I see the highs and lows of what I have been through in my life so far. However, detracting myself from this rather insular and detached viewpoint, "JerryMaguire" is a remarkable exception to the proven principle that all movies with a sporting theme are over hyped, unadulterated babble, with little thought provoking value.
Written and directed by Cameron Crowe, "JerryMaguire" is similar in many ways to his earlier efforts, "Say Anything" and "Singles,” but grows into a more mature picture about honour, conduct and integrity. It sets an emotional tone with the opening narration. "I hate my place in the world," which Jerry (Tom Cruise) says as he recounts being...

...JerryMaguire is a sports agent. One night he has a moral crisis and concludes that his work is unethical so he writes a paper outlining his feelings and then he publishes it. As a result of this ‘mission statement’, Maguire gets fired from his job and is left with just one client, Rob Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr) and his loyal secretary, Dorothy Boyd who quits her job to support him. The entire cast does a wonderful job and the film is an interesting romantic comedy. I would definitely recommend this film....
