Being a big fan of Top Gear, and in particular Jeremy Clarkson, I could not resist buying this DVD when I saw it cheap. Although Clarksons typical humour is definately present, which is good, I was quite disappointed with this DVD, which seems a bit rushed.
OVERVIEW
The main idea behind this DVD is that the so called cars of 'heaven' are driven round the track by Clarkson, as he talks breifly about their speed, handling etc, whilst the cars of 'hell' are demolished, using various methods of destruction. The main trouble is that the DVD contains 20 features, and is only 70 minutes long. This means that the mini 'reviews' of the good cars do not last long at all, and so they are not very interesting, as there is only so much you can do with a car in 3 minutes. As for the cars of hell, once you have seen one or two cars be blown apart, then the next 5 become less and less exciting.
FEATURES
There are without question some great cars on show in this DVD, such as the Aston Martin DB9, and the Ferrari Enzo. Clarkson takes these round the track, and with his typical humour and wit, talks breifly about the cars and what it is like to drive them. Other cars driven round the track include the:
Maserati Quattroporte BMW M5 Chervolet Corvette TVR Sagaris Vauxhall Monaro Ferrari 612
The other theme of this DVD involves 'bad' cars, or basically cheap, everyday cars being destroyed. These include the
Renault Espace Perodua Kelisa Citroen 2CV Ford Scorpio
Although there are some original and funny ideas for destroying these cars, such as car jousting or bad stunt driving, most last only 2-3 minutes, which is just too short. As for the destoying the rest of the cars, most involve Clarkson basicall hitting them with different objects and then exploding them, which can become very quickly dull to watch.
CLARKSON
Jeremy Clarkson is well known for his satirical humour, and he is very funny throughout this DVD, providing a good few laughs that brighten up the lack of interesting features throughout. He reviews the cars quite well for the amount of time he has, but stuggles to find a variety of things to say about each car, as they are pretty much all fast, expensive supercars. However for those looking to find the same Clarkson as they see every week on Top Gear, they will not be disappointed.
CONCLUSION
This DVD was obviously rushed out in time for christmas, and it is a shame that more time has not been spent making it. Although Clarkson himself is very good, with a few more original ideas and a few less staright track review, this DVD could have been so much better. I would only reccommend to those who enjoy Clarksons car reviews, as well as watching cars be blown apart. And even then only pick it up if its going cheap.
