The first Jeepers Creepers was for me an exceptionally good horror film from director Victor Salva; it's sequel is also very good, but not as scary as the original. Jeepers Creepers 2 is actually set only a few days after the original, on the last day of the Creepers 23 day feeding frenzy. Apparently the reason for the film being set on the 23rd and last feeding day is so that a Jeepers Creepers 3 couldn't be made, which apparently both Victor Salva and executive producer Francis Ford Coppola didn't want, although there are some rumours flying around that a sequel, possibly set in the future, may be made.
The majority of Jeepers Creepers 2 is set on a high school bus, which makes the potential for really scary sequences much more difficult then in the first film. The plot is as follows; a group of basketball players and coaches become stranded on the East 9 Highway (where the Creeper killed its prey in the first film) after returning from a basketball match, unaware that it is the Creeper who has damaged their bus. As it gets dark, the group of youngsters have to fight for their lives against the winged menace, who is hellbent on kidnapping and stockpiling as many victims as it can.
Jeepers Creepers 2 is in many ways a classic horror movie, with a very simple set up. Some of the scary sequences are quite good, such as when the Creeper licks the windscreen of the bus, and also at the very beginning of the film where he pretends to be a scarecrow so he can kidnap a young farm boy. However the main problem with this sequel is that the Creeper seems less sinister, because of the fact that there are so many close ups of him, whereas in the first film he's hidden from view. Even though there are a lot more full frontal views of the winged beast he is still a lechorous creature who's mere presence lights up the screen, avoking an aura of pure evil.
The best bit of the film for me is when the original victim from the first film gives cheerleader Mixie a prior warning to what's going to happen during a nightmare vision. That part scared me more then anything else in the film. I also rather morbidly enjoyed the sequence where one of the jocks gets his hand knifed on to a tree and he's desperatly trying to get himself free before the Creeper snatches him. After managing to get himself free the Creeper calmly scoops him up and takes him away. I found this sequence very tongue in cheek and humorous.
The ending of the film does seem to be a lead in to the possibility of another sequel, but it still remains to be seen if this will happen. After the excellent Jeepers Creepers and this solid sequel, I think they should quit while they're ahead.
INFO: The film stars among others Ray Wise, Diane Delano, Al Santos and Jonathon Breck as the Creeper. I got the DVD from Woolworths for 5.99.

It did seem semi set up for a sequel at the end...but at the same time - is the Creeper really going to escape from the chains it was in? Great review of a great film. Rich
