Like death and taxes, it’s a sure bet that if a horror movie does well then a sequel won’t be far behind. Jeepers Creepers was an effective little horror flick with some good scares and a first half that actually worked very well in creeping out its audience. Sadly the film tailed off in the second half once the villain was fully revealed but it was still a fun ride. Now the villain of the film was called The Creeper, a strange demon like figure who would come out of hibernation every 23rd spring and eat for 23 days. With this in mind there was only one way the sequel could go unless it wanted to turn out like Jason X.
The second film takes place a few days after the first film. The Creeper is still at large and he has just preyed upon a young boy in the cornfields of America. This leaves the boys father out for revenge. Naturally The Creeper hasn’t satisfied his bloodlust and he stops a school bus containing a high school football team in the middle of nowhere. The rest of the film is a siege mentality as the inhabitants of the bus try to stay alive while The Creeper lurks outside and tries to pick them off one by one. No one is safe and that includes The Creeper who is being hunted by one bereaved father.
I wasn’t really expecting much from this film but I have to say it was surprisingly enjoyable. If you go into it with little expectation and you like the genre then you’re going to have a good time. Director Victor Salva keeps things running at a tight pace and there are some good nasty scares and a few shocking moments. The Creeper himself is naturally no longer a mystery. With a bigger budget we now get to see him in his full glory. The Creepers main threat in the movie comes from the sky and you get some good visual effects as he swoops out of the sky to take his victims away. But this is also one of the problems with the film, once you’ve seen him pick someone put of the sky then you don’t really need to see it on nearly every other occasion. The Creeper it seems is very limited in his ideas of how to build up a body count. He needs to get some tips from Freddy or Jason as his methods get a bit dull. Having said that there is one novel and very gross moment where we see how he regenerates parts of his body.
The cast are pretty much your average teen faces, there’s no one you really root for and there are no real leads. Having said that the fact that there are no known faces means that you never really can hedge bets on who’ll be around at the end of the movie. As with my opinion on Wrong Turn, I appreciate films like this that take a more traditional approach to filmmaking. There is no rock soundtrack, instead there is a foreboding musical score. Rock music at times is the major downer in a film. Thankfully Victor Salva seems to enjoy using the old methods rather than pandering to the target audience.
I would say that Jeepers Creepers 2 is well worth a rental, it could have been a very bad sequel but it actually turns out to be a solid entry into the genre and one that should please most horror fans.

We all know that the JeepersCreepers films aint good for getting you jumping out your seats but I enjoy these films 1 & 2 a lot. You said you wern't expecting much from this and you actually enjoyed it. Well I expected much more from this and was hoping for an excellent follow up. The storyline in the second I thinks much better but then it didn't really live up to it, not enough tension keeping you drawn into the film. I was suprisingly dissapointed a little. Gavvy

Advantages: some cute chicks; reasonably entertaining Disadvantages: in a rather dumb, shallow and uninvolving way; everything is spoon-fed to the audience; some threads left hanging
