Well as summer draws to an end so do the long awaited highly publicised blockbusters. This was probably one of the last cinema visits I would make for the rest of the year and I was hoping for something damn good. Jeepers Creepers 2 to me was one of the most eagerly awaited films of the summer. I’ll be the first to admit that I thought that the first film was an absolute pile of crap but I thought that this would be good for comical value. From the trailer I had no high expectations thinking myself that it was rather cheesy with its slogan “FEED YOUR FEAR” – running through my head was the slogan feed your laughter! Then I thought wait a minute you ought to give this film the benefit of the doubt rather than dissing it before you’ve even seen it. So off we went on the day of release. Being a 15 and a popular looking film I had my bus pass ready for identification as the UCI cinema checks at all big movies. Rather than justifying my age to the ticket man I found myself in a discussion about the film. As I was getting the money ready to pay I heard him mumbling under his breath that the film was crap when his mate turned round and said to me “You’re going to see Jeepers Creepers 2?? It’s a pile oh Sh*te!!” Great I thought to myself I’ve just spent £4.25 to see a pile of sh*te! Then I thought of the ticket man and said to myself “Great way to bloody advertise!!” Then I rejoined my group who were all moaning about being asked their age and off we went into the cinema.
We played the usual guess the advert game (We’ve noticed that the adverts are in the same order in every film) and eagerly awaited the film.

~*~The Plot~*~
The sequel is set a few days after the ending of the first, which of course makes a lot of sense rather than having to set the film 23 years into the future. It is now the end of the 22nd day as the film opens. The film opens with some subtitles telling us that “it” or “the creeper” can eat every 23rd spring for 23 days. We then see a young boy of about 13 or 14 pinning up some scarecrows. We all know what’s coming we’ve seen the trailer its not a scarecrow on stand number one its some ugly slimy monster that eats human body parts. After this kill the film swoops to day 23 and a school busload of teenagers driving down the dreaded East 9 highway on their way home from a championship basketball game. The bus suffers a flat tyre, which is caused by a sharp instrument that contains a tooth. Us as the audience all know it’s the creeper on the prowl for food however the bus doesn’t. As the day goes on and the bus tries to carry on its journey and night falls. Minxie falls asleep and has a rather disturbing dream about what’s really going on. This part of the film contains a nice cameo from Justin Long who you may remember as Darry from the first film. Minxie wakes up and the bus suffers another flat tyre from a similar sharp instrument this time made up of a belly button. Well I’ll leave the rest for you to go and see for yourself otherwise I might ruin it for you.
~*~My Opinion~*~
Well I didn’t have high hopes about this at all but I must admit despite my doubts and the comments from the ticket man I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. In some respects it was better than the first but in others it lacked some of the first’s good qualities. You may have noticed that there appears to be a rather large cast and hardly and comment of many characters in my brief plot. That’s because in the film I don’t feel that you get to know the characters. In the first there are only two real characters and you get to know them immediately however in this one I felt that I only really got to know a couple. The most memorable and focussed on character was Minxie who we got to know briefly but the others I didn’t know at all on first name terms, if I missed something I would turn to my friend and say what did the guy with the glasses say? Or what did the girl with the dark hair do? And to be honest I feel as if it should have been what did Bucky say? Or what did Rhonda do?
Another thing that I wasn’t so keen on was the way that the film delved straight into the action, which is probably the reason we didn’t get to know the characters. In the first there was that chilling car chase and roughly 30 minutes of the film was spent creeping us out with the old church and the creepy car where as the sequel opened with a killing.
The sequel did have it’s good points though, it did seem a little more scary where the creeper was concerned although to me some parts were more disturbing than scary. There is a lot more interaction between the characters and the creeper. The plot itself wasn't bad at all it followed pretty much the same format as the first but wasn't a complete snooze fest. I have images of this film turning into a Trilogy, as the ending was very open to another film being created.
The acting wasn’t bad and I think that the cast did quite a good job; their fear was quite believable and funny at the same time. Some of the characters did come out with the queerest things when they were scared and it did make me laugh. None of the actors particularly stood out as stealing the show but they none were really focussed on enough individually to do that. I think that the action scenes between the creeper and the kids were much better than the first. The music used in the action scenes was quite good and added great effect to the film.
The special effects were good but nothing spectacular or Matrix style although that superman flying style is becoming the new trend! The creeper looked excellent and whatever it is they do to make poor Jonathan look like that is brilliant – disgusting and slimy but brilliant!
I have to be honest in saying that I didn’t find this film scary in the slightest. There were a few points that I saw the rest of the cinema slightly jump in shock but nothing to give you nightmares. I would recommend this as something to watch if you enjoyed the first or if you enjoy things of the disturbing nature, as some points are really foul.
Thanx for the read Jenni xx :O)

I've never understood the attraction of horror films. Comedies: yup, I like to laugh; Action/Suspense/Thriller: I like to be entertained...BUT horror: nope, I don't like being frightened - so why pay??? ~ Mark

Advantages: some cute chicks; reasonably entertaining Disadvantages: in a rather dumb, shallow and uninvolving way; everything is spoon-fed to the audience; some threads left hanging
