I first read Jane Eyre when I was twelve- I liked it but didn’t really understand it. I picked it up again when I had just turned sixteen and have since read it five time…and I only turned sixteen fifteen or sixteen months ago. I thought it was very well written and the characters were well-formed and interesting.
So I decided to buy the film. I chose this version because I prefer modern films to old and grainy ones. I wasn’t exactly disappointed but it was far from accurate. Key parts of the story had been missed out, including parts that show the complicated but amazing relationship between Jane Eyre and her master Mr. Rochester.

Joan Plowright's in it, as is Fiona Shaw. Ms. Shaw only has a tiny part, a huge shame as she's an amazing actress. It was directed by Franco Zeferelli, famous director even though I've seen none of his other films.
Sound track was average. The main theme got a bit annoying as it was played every two minutes...quite good though.
It’s not a bad film and, if you’re in a quiet mood and it’s raining outside then this is a nice film to watch. Don’t be expecting any extras though because it’s just a made-for -tv film. Also, if you’re the world’s biggest fan of the book, you’ll really want to stay away from it.
Advantages: Jane Eyre story shines through, good acting Disadvantages: Story is too jumpy, seen better versions
As an avid fan of Jane Eyre and Charlotte Bronte (the novel author) this movie adaptation is one of the many I have watched and I certainly isn't one of the better ones. However in my opinion the story of Jane Eyre is so adorable that it will make the worst adaptation of it enjoyable.
This movie lost in appeal to other versions because it had to cut out crucial areas of the novels story in order to make it into a 1hr 54min blockbuster. Due to this ... ...I thought her portrayal of Jane Eyre was among the best. William Hurt as Mr Rochester was disappointing though as I thought he lacked any passion in the role. The supporting cast were good but largely inconsequential as this film relies solely on the talents of the two main characters for its success. If you know the Jane Eyre novel inside out I would recommend you look elsewhere. If this is your first look at Jane Eyre then you should find this ...

...of the different versions of Jane Eyre, this is, in my opinion, supremely the best.
I first saw this film after I had read the book and the film brought the book to life. The chemistry between Leila Clarke and Timothy Dalton with the charectors of Mr Rochester and Jane Eyre cannot be beaten. Although it it long in length, I think it is worth the wait.
There is a delightful scene where Mr Rochester calls Jane a little niggot, you can see the laughter ...

Advantages: Well-acted, intensely passionate, gloriously moving Disadvantages: Too long to just watch on a whim
This may very well be the greatest, most romantic movie of all time. It is very nearly a requirement that you spend at least one rainy weekend watching this film, all curled up with a box of tissues. There is no shame for crying at this movie. At least, I hope there isn't. Because…you know. *cough*
The BBC version of the Bronte classic is the best, in my humble opinion, and the truest to the book. Also, it is very hard to beat a little bit of dashing ... ...version does the best job of giving you an actress who really does look plain (you rather think that if you had a chance to give her a bit of a makeover, you might hit "almost pretty", but she is definitely not the "take off glasses for Instant Stunning" that you get with the other versions)--yet the strong, intelligent, and independent woman winning the heart of a gorgeous, witty, independent man is the dream of most plain girls. I know it was mine.

JaneEyre- What can I say I love this film...
Ever since this was on BBC on a Sunday night, I found myself hooked to it. I am youngish and I would never have thought I would have liked one of the Bronte tales, as this is what my Nan enjoys but I really enjoyed it that much I had to get the DVD version!
The Novel Itself
This is an adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's novel 'JaneEyre'. This was a much loved classic and BBC provide this excellent version! Jane experienced childhood in a bad way as she was an orphan and she is desperate to have a new beginning. With a position available as a Governess available at Thornfield hall, Jane accepts this career and does not look back!

I've always been a big fan of the Bronte sisters - in particular, Charlotte. JaneEyre is probably her most well-known work, and so it's not surprising that there have been several versions of it made on film. But out of all of them, the one that I've been able to watch straight through, enraptured at every moment, has been this version, with Charlotte Gainsborough and William Hurt. I can't officially compare it to the other versions since I haven't seen them in their entirety (though now I'm convinced I have to at least try) - so this review is strictly on this DVD.
For a quick synopsis of the story - JaneEyre is a young girl living with her nightmare aunt who treats her terribly, and ends up sending her to a boarding school. Young Jane is portrayed by Anna Paquin, who does it brilliantly. The loathing for her aunt, her innocence ...
Advantages: great storyline, fantastic acting Disadvantages: special features
Being a Charlotte Bronte and JaneEyre fan I wasn't expecting it to appeal to me as much as it did. Another period drama to fill in an hour on a Sunday evening. Nevertheless, appealed to me it did.
JaneEyre. The classic story of a plain governess falling in love with the master of the house and vice versa. A tale which many a person could watch and read without getting tired off. With a simple background you could easily say what happens is all very obvious and predictable. However that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.
This BBC adaption stars Toby Stephens ( son of Maggie Smith!) and Ruth Wilson. Both fitting their roles perfectly with Ruth portraying a deep emotive and modest Jane and Toby becoming the powerful and masculine Mr Rochester. The way he managed to show the character as a real emotional figure, reflecting ...
