For those of you that love film, and European film in particular, this DVD is a must have. It consists of 16 shortfilms by some of Europe?s best and brightest directors. Most of them were made before the Directors hit the big time (as far as I can tell but I cannot guarantee that as some of them I haven?t heard of), even including film school graduation shorts.
This DVD consists of 16 funny, innovative and experimental shorts, all with commentaries recorded mainly by the directors themselves.
The shortfilm is incredibly difficult to pull off, economy of script, direction and an ability to convey as much as possible is of vital importance when you need to tell a complete story within a compacted time period. Short Cuts is a collection of about twenty different characters in Los Angeles, in loosely connected stories, which revolve around relationship problems and death. It essentially follows the day in a life of these characters as they cross each other paths. No one is really the lead star, as each actor gets about equal time on screen. The cast includes many big names actors such as, Tim Robbins, Julianne Moore, Jack Lemmon, Matthew Modine, Robert Downey Jr, and Frances McDormand.
I think that this is a fantastic film that really works well. Altman does a good job getting all these big actors to share time on screen, with no egos getting in the way. I would say that Tim Robbins ...
