OVERVIEW

Welcome to Raloo Farm in Ireland, where a spunky eight-year-old pig named Piggley Winks has lots of fun with all his friends! He is always on the lookout for adventure, along with his best friends Ferny the bull and Dannan the duck.

The unique twist to this wonderful series is that it always starts with Pigglet Winks when he is an old man, telling his grandchildren, twins Sean and Seamus, about his adventures as a child. The story unfolds about the young Piggley, then ends with him when he is older, talking to his grandchildren about the moral of the story.

Jakers the Adventures of Piggley Winks also shows daily on CBeebies at the moment- my four year old and two year old love it. The music at the beginning is so catchy i often find myself singing it through the day! The soundtrack throughout is great too.

THE CHARACTERS

Piggley Winks- he lives with his parents and younger sister Molly on a farm in Raloo in the 1950s.

Dannan O'Mallard - he is a duck who lives in a little shed by a pond with his grandmother, who you hardly ever see

Ferny- a young bull who lives with his Spanish blacksmith father Don Toro

Each episode also features an amusing subplot based around Wiley the sheep- he is the only member of his flock that can talk and is very funny, always up to mischief.

The Salmon of Knowledge

It's test time at school, but rather than study, Piggley decides to visit the "Salmon of Knowledge" - an all-knowing fish that Piggley thinks can help him get through the exam.

Rock Around the Cluck

Showbiz calls when Piggley discovers rock 'n' roll music and excitedly takes up the guitar. But when his first public performance doesnt go very well, it takes Ferny and Dannan's support to help Piggley regain his confidence.

New Best Friends

Mr. Hornsby has a team assignment for the kids to tackle - but Piggley and his best friends Ferny and Dannan are less than enthusiastic about taking on the project with classmates they don't know as well as each other. As it turns out, they learn a very valuable lesson.

A Little Bit of Something Extra! Extra!

As keen journalists, the kids set out to write their own newspaper stories - but things go wrong when Piggley and Ferny make up exciting adventure stories instead. Dannan has to remind them that news stories are about the truth...

MY OPINION

I would really recommend this DVD. It is colourful with fantastic characters, humour and great music. My favourite character is Ferny the bull and Wiley the sheep is very funny.
