Over a period of four decades, French explorer Cousteau and his team crossed the world many times over in their ships, the Calypso and the Alcyone, filming the undersea world as never seen before. ...As anyone who has any interest in the seas should know JacquesCousteau is the forefather of modern explorations, as a French Naval Officer he was part of the team which invented the aqualung system which is the basis for that which scuba divers today still use. He was also passionate about the marine life which his invention allowed him to see and the unexplored realms which had become accessable to us. But of course one reason that we know his name so well is his TV shows in which he utilised the technology avalible to him to explore the ocean depths and show the landlocked public the wonders hidden there.

Advantages: Beautifully shot, atmospheric and intelligent Disadvantages: Perhaps too intelligent for its own good
...: that the darkness of the unknown can ultimately be banished by the light of logic.
On a deeper level, Eco is trying to snapshot that moment in history when rationalism defeated the unquestioned faith in, and power of the clergy. Jean Jacques Arnaud's film captures this struggle in a unique light that the author should be proud of....
