I Am Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan is the star of over a hundred movies. Born in Hong Kong his parents nearly ... more
sold him to the doctor who delivered him and he had a punishing childhood as an apprentice in the Chinese Opera. Trained for film and theatre work he was a stuntman in a Bruce Lee's Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon before becoming a star in his own right. He became a box office favourite in the Far East helping to reinvent the Hong Kong action genre by blending hyperkinetic stunts with his trademark self-deprecating humour. After the success of Rumble in the Bronx and Rush Hour in the 1990s the West caught on. Insightful and revealing I Am Jackie Chan is a must for his legions of fans.
fame in the Far East he is probably the most popular movie star on the planet. This authorised biography tells a classic rags-to-riches story of how he got there. Born in Hong Kong to a poor Migrant family, Chan was sent to Chinese Opera school to study under a disciplinarian teacher. He acquired a solid grounding in physical expression and left aged 16 to become a stuntman in the Hong King film industry. By sheer force of personality, tenacity and some genuinely impressive stunts, he quickly became a box-office favourite and a star. Chan is just starting to break through in Hollywood and this is obviously where his considerable energies are now being directed. "I've been on Letterman and Jay Leno", he proudly claims, "I've gotten an award on MTV. Lionel Richie came to visit me on the set". But despite his new friends Chan has never forgotten how far he has come and ends the book with a poetic statement of his achievement. "I was a useless child./ A ragged boy./ A reckless teen./ And now --/ Look who I am now!". --Nick Wroe

...This is another film I was lucky enough to spot being shown on TV, this time on a Freeview channel and having read that its another JackieChan movie that I hadn't seen already, I knew I had to tape this to watch later, which I did and once again, I wasn't disappointed!
This movie dates from 1998 and, similarly to the slightly earlier movie Mr Nice Guy (which I've also reviewed here on Ciao), the character Jackie plays has his same name too.
The plot is very similar to The Bourne Identity, with Jackie (the character) a government agent who knows about a secret corrupt deal that could endanger us all and, along with other agents, are left to die on what becomes an unmanned helicopter. However, he manages to escape and survives but suffers from amnesia (hence the name of the movie) and doesn't remember anything about who he is...

Advantages: Good comedy action scenes, good acting from Chan, pretty entertaining Disadvantages: The story is predictable/formulaic, the acting (apart from Chan) wasn't great, some parts subtitled
...I spotted this movie listed in Radio Times as being shown on channel 4 quite late at night a week or so back. I wouldn't have paid any attention to it, if it weren't for the fact that I spotted the cast and saw that it starred JackieChan and Sammo Hung (both of which I like, JackieChan is one of my favourite actors and I was a fan of the TV show Martial Law that starred Sammo Hung), which made me think - a-ha! yet another use for my trusty and heavily used new hard disk recorder lol and what a useful piece of equipment that is... anyway, I read the basic plotline from the listing, which basically set the story in a few lines, though I'll explain it now in a bit more detail. The movie is about Jackie (who, incidentally, plays someone with his same name, Jackie) is a TV chef in Australia (as random as that is! which is possibly the only...

...This is the king of all boxsets, its amazing. It has all of the matrix films plus loads of special features. Its not really for anyone who hasnt seen any matrix films yet but if your a fan its totally worth buying. Its great value for money as aswell as getting all the films you get 35 hours of special features. Overall its one of the best boxsets I have ever come across and would recomend it to anyone. Its for anyone 15 years and older and inside there are 10 discs including films and special features. In my opinion this is quite cheap as I got it for much more so I would advise anyone to get it here. I would give it 10/10....
