Last night , I decided to watch the movie "It's A Boy/Girl Thing". I've had this film on DVD for a few weeks now , but still hadn't got round to watching it.
It's A Boy/Girl Thing is a romantic comedy starring Samaire Armstrong and Kevin Zegers. Sharon Osbourne also stars in this film. The film was directed by Nick Hurran and released in 2005. The film's running time is approximately ninety three minutes. The film is a certificate 12. I bought this film for £5 from Woolworths.
* Characters *
* Nell Bedworth * Nell is a teenage girl who works takes things seriously and works hard at school. She is not interested in boys and spends her time studying or reading. She is considered a geek at school , and is sometimes picked on by the 'popular' gang , such as her running for the bus , and the popular ones already on the bus laughing and not telling the bus driver to stop. However she is really sweet , although she does not get on with her next door neighbout Woody.
* Woody Deane * Woody Deane is a teenage boy who is into sport and is a "hero" in terms of sport in school.
He is extremely popular , and goes out with a cheerleader. He does not take things seriously and jokes about everything. He dislikes his neighbour Nell because they are total opposites and he considers her to be weird.
* Plot *
Nell Bedworth ( Samaire Armstrong) and Woody Deane ( Kevin Zeggers ) live next door to each other. They have been rivals since they were young. Nell is potrayed as a nerd , and Woody a popular sporty guy at school. On a school trip to the museum , their teacher pairs them up to work together. However , they begin arguing in front of an Aztec statue. It appears that the statue cast a spell over the two as the next morning they wake up in each others bodies. Is this just some kind of "twenty four hour thing" or will the two be stuck in each others bodies forever.
* My Opinion * I loved this film. It's the type of film I always go for. I found it really funny throughout the whole film and found myself laughing every few lines. The actors played their parts really well , and there was good chemistry between the two. At times I did find the film confusing as the boy was now in the girl's body and the girl was now in the boy's body , so when they were calling each other "me" and "you" it was quite confusing when they were having a conversation. I found myself saying to myself all the time "so she's the boy , and he's the girl!". It was funny how the girl was acting all manly even though she was a girl , and the boy was acting all girlie and crying all the time! One thing I found about this movie is that I found it similar to two other films ; Mean Girls and Freaky Friday. If you have not seen Freaky Friday , it involves the mother and daughter arguing in a Chinese restaurant , when the restaurant owner's mother sees them arguing and gives them a cookie which makes them switch bodies , this therefore made the two films appear similar. It's A Boy/Girl Thing is similar to Mean Girls I found because like in most films there was a "popular group" and a "geek group" , however when Woody who looks like Nell gets invited to his girlfriend's sleepover it's like Mean Girls again ; with the three popular friends and "Nell" who is actually Woody is like "Cadie" (Lindsay Lohan's character in Mean Girls). Also , at the end of Mean Girls one of the popular girls wins the homecoming queen award , just like Regina did in Mean Girls. However I did enjoy this film and found it really funny. Some parts I would think , oh that's obviously going to happen but then something totally different would happen , and therefore I'd say that this film is not too predictable. There is a lot of sex references in this movie and it's also quite rude , and therefore I was surprised to learn that this movie is only a twelve , I would have thought it would have been a fifteen. This is great for a teenage sleepover , as you will get lots of laughs from it. I also think some boys might like it. I definitely recommend this film , it's definitely worth the money!
* Quotes *
Nell Bedworth: [Sitting on the toilet, in Woody's body] Oh my God, I have to touch it!
* * * * * * * * * * * * Nell Bedworth: [Woody in Nell's body on bras] How do you put these things on?
