I picked this DVD up for £9.99 last time I went shopping to see if it was any different compared to Manx Moods, another product I've reviewed. And suffice to say - it is.
Its presented by Charles Guard, and travels over the Isle of Man and discusses the impact the last Ice age had on sculpting the hills and the northern plains. It shows some very nice views, and in my opinion is just generally more interesting than Manx Moods. One example is the re-telling of the stories of Peel Castle and the small island it sits on just off the coast of the Peel itself, and lets you appreciate the history behind it.
Everything in this DVD is filmed from the air, via helicopter, and it gives a unique perspective on the land formations, cliffs and hills that have emerged. I thought it was quite 'dudey' with some of the more tricky shots, such as the aerial flow down the Sulby River near the end. The soundtrack has typical instrumental gaelic pieces, that just fits with the aerial flow of the video.
One of the more interesting parts is the full flight around the coast of the Isle of Man, showing the settlements such as Ramsey, Douglas, Kirk Michael and Castletown as the helicopter shows the miles of beaches and coast.
However, onto the bad bits - its not really an exciting program - its educational for the history and geography parts, but its definetly a niche market again. If you like geography/geology/celtic history, then you won't be disappointed, but anyone hoping for daredevil flying stunts should look elsewhere
