This is a great Sci-fi film, from the Director Terence Fisher (Night Of The Big Heat), made in 1966, the film is well made and the plot is a strong one. Quality of picture and the sound track are good as are the effects (for back then) and with a good cast too. Altogether a great little number. This was one of my favourite films when I was a child and was allowed to stay up on a late Friday night to catch this and other notable films made by the likes of Hammer House etc.
The story...... A Cancer research centre based on a remote Island off the coast of ireland, is trying to find a cure for cancer and is experimenting with radiation and effects on human tissue. The Island is a small one with no means of communication except a ferry that comes once a week. Populated mainly by farmers and a local Doctor and Police Officer and a pub. Whilst on patrol the local Police Officer finds a man dead in a cave and discovers that the body has no bones in it. He contacts his local Doctor, who in turn contacts a well known Doctor (CUSHING) who specialises in Bone disorders, who agrees with another Doctor (JUDD) to come to the Island and investigate. As more victims are discovered they discover that a new creature called a 'Silicate' has been created by the cancer research facility and is multiplying. I won't spoil the film and tell you what happens at the end, but we win or do we? The plot is great, the suspense is very good and it has an air of a good quality science fiction film. The Special effects are good and the performance by the actors is very good too.
In short I would recommend this film to anyone who liked to old Hammer films and science fiction thrillers.

Sorry for the H, but if this is to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in similar detail to the way you've reviewed the film, rather than just a list of them.
