Hi I'm Leanne, 22 from Huddersfield. my reviews are also posted on Dooyoo under the same username- leanne8686.
I don't get on here very often, when I do I tend to post a few reviews I have written and saved in Word on the same day.

I absolutely LOVE Vampire films and this is definitely one of my favourites within the huge collection I own!
"Drink from me and live forever"
I have the Special Edition version of the DVD which has lots of special features which I'll tell you about later. The DVD cover has a picture of Tom Cruise doing his best scary vampire face; this fades down into a scene from a dark street with a person sat on a bench (looks like Brad Pitt but only a tiny picture so not sure) and a cloaked girl stood at the side of him. Across the top of the cover is a gold band which states it is a 'Special Edition'.
The writing on the cover says:
Tom Cruise Interview with the Vampire The Vampire Chronicles
Brad Pitt Antonio Banderas Stephen Rea and Christian Slater
I've included this info as it is written on the DVD to show how clear they make it that Tom Cruise is the star of this film! His name even appears before the film name whereas as the rest of the cast are listed below (in smaller writing too, may I add)
~~~The Plot~~~ "The spellbinding screen adaptation of Anne Rice's best seller"
The Vampire, Louis has
decided to tell his life story to writer Daniel Malloy...starting with how he became a vampire in 1791 at the age of 24 and what it's been like 'living' for 200 years. This film is Louis' story.
In the beginning we are in New Orleans, Lestat is a very old vampire, dead a long time. He wants a companion and finds Louis; a heartbroken young man who has just lost his wife, who he then lures into his immortal vampire world. Louis then has to live with the fact he must kill to survive in this new 'life'. He refuses to take a life and tries to survive drinking just the blood of rats and any other animals he can find on the streets. Lestat leaves a path of destruction behind him wherever he goes, killing more than he needs and arousing suspicion within the people of the town.
They are driven out of Louis' plantation mansion where they have lived together thus far. The plague hits New Orleans and Louis finds a little girl whose mother has died and thinking he is giving her merciful death, he feeds from her. As a gift to Louis; Lestat offers his wrist to the dying little girl (Claudia) so Louis can have a playmate forvever! The three of them become a very dysfunctional family!
Claudia begins to despise Lestat for making her into this creature and tortures him eventually 'killing' him, Claudia and Louis escape on a ship to Europe to try and find more vampires and end up in Paris.
I won't tell any more of the story as it may turn into a spoiler. Lots of twists and turns, sadness, hunger and loneliness follow.
A lot of the film is shot at night in darkness (for obvious reasons) and this really adds to the eerie loneliness you can believe a vampire lives with.
~~~The Cast~~~ * Tom Cruise: Lestat de Lioncourt Before I watched this film I doubted Tom Cruises ability to play such a bad guy but his performance really proves how great and versatile he is. He carries the part off perfectly, scary yet still managing to be sexy! (Anne Rice was also worried at first about this casting but after seeing the film, publicly apologised to Cruise for her doubts)
* Brad Pitt: Louis de Pointe du Lac Plays the young, heartbroken guy very well. I really feel for Louis as he is a good guy deep down! Just about the sexiest vampire I ever saw! Great acting too, I've always been a fan of Brad Pitt and this is a great role for him.
* Kirsten Dunst: Claudia A very young Kirsten carries off this part well. It can at times be a bit disturbing watching her part as she looks so young and innocent then she's sucking blood from people! Kirsten Dunst has spoken out about growing u too fast and I'm sure her part in this comes into that.
These three are the main charactors but they are supported by some equally big names including: Christian Slater as the writer who interviews Louis, Antonio Banderas as the vampire Armand, Thandi Newton (little known at the time) as Yvette. Stephen Rea as Santiago.
All in all, a fantastic cast!
Of course the film couldn't be this amazing without the special effects, make up artists etc. The make up of Tom Cruise alone took 3 hours to perfect before filiming every day.
As extra testament to the brilliance of this film; Anne Rice was so pleased with this adaptation that she took out a two page ad in both Vanity Fair and the New York Times endorsing it as "a masterpiece".
~~~Other Info~~~ Interview with the Vampire was released in 1995 (for some reason the film seems much older than that to me!)
The film is rated 18 for the strong language, sex, nudity and bloody violence!
Running time: 118 minutes
DVD Extras: On this special edition these are the extras: Audio commentary by the director Special Introduction Documentary 'In the shadow of a Vampire'- a full length documentary! Interactive menus Scene Access Film Trailer
~~~Conclusion~~~ Vampire films can sometimes be a bit hit or miss, this is a big hit!
They took a risk with the two main actors and it paid off, neither one had played this kind of part before but they both excelled!
A great story bringing together all the emotions Louis has felt throughout his life, his epic life story is amazing and spellbinding. The way the story is being told to the writer also adds an original twist to the film. There are some quite graphic scenes as you would expect from blood suckers! Not one for the squeamish. I don't find the film scary as there were no jumpy bits, just gore really.
The film is almost 2 hours but I could easily have watched an hour more, the time flies by as it does when you're really enjoying something!
Oh and of course a superb ending to this amazing film!
Utterly spellbinding, a fantastic film. I only wish I could have seen it at the cinema, what an experience I'm sure!
