Do you love music from all decades?? Think your trivia scope is something to be admired?? Want to impress your friends?? Would you like a fun-filled and raucous evening of shouting answers at a top notch DVD-based music quiz??

If so, do NOT buy this game.

My journey with this piece of excrement begins when I was introduced to Scene It?. The much loved movie trivia DVD quiz blew my mind. I just loved the concept. However, movies are really not my forte, so I failed miserably in the quest to win. Music, however, is my life.
I have a mind full of song lyrics and random useless facts regarding band line-ups, album tracks and producers that I seem to have amassed over the years. Needless to say, in a group of hardcore movie buffs, I wanted a game that I could enjoy and kick their collective asses at.
When I bought Beat The Intro, music Scene It? had not come on the market yet. So, on a recommendation from a friend (whose taste I now question), I bought Beat The Intro, thinking it would be similar.

Firstly, it is just a DVD. There is no board or card questions. This, in itself, is not a huge loss; as the best questions are always the DVD ones anyway.
However, I think the concept of Beat The Intro was just quite weak to begin with.

At first glance, it does just what it says on the tin. There are a series of intros to famous tracks and a multiple choice question. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to "guess" what the song is and select the correct answer on the screen before the timer runs out.
Thrilling?? I think not.

My first issue with this game is the fact that the questions are so inexplicably easy that a trained monkey could answer them. And that is only the first time you play it. Fresh faced and eager, having seen none of the questions before.
If you have listened to the radio at all in the last 20 years, you should emerge with a score in the 80%'s, without even engaging your brain.

In terms of repeatability, the game is an absolute joke. The number of clips is extremely limited. After two or three games, you can get the answer just from looking at the multiple choice options, without even hearing the first second of the clip.
Quite often, you get exactly the same clips in pretty much the same order. And there only seem to be about 20 clips in the 00's decade section.

Playing in a group loses its appeal very quickly. There is no way of keeping score; other than nominating a minion to keep it with pencil and paper. Not a very good sign in the "technological age".

The game retails for about £15.99. I got it on special offer (thank god) from HMV for £9.99. Even then, it's really not worth it. I'm reluctant to even try to sell my copy on ebay. My compassion for my fellow man would make it difficult for me to take money off someone for this pile of crap.

I realise this is probably the harshest review I have ever written, but I was so disappointed I almost cried.
Trust me, do not buy this. If you want a good musci trivia game, complete with clips, intros and music videos, buy music Scene It?. It is much more worthy of the title "game"!!!
