The Indiana Jones Movies are by far some of the greatest movies ever made. Written by George Lucas (Star Wars) and directed by Steven Spielberg they are the perfect mix of action, adventure, comedy and romance. If you have never seen these films, you need to go out and buy this DVD box set now. They are really that good!
The trilogy follows the adventures of Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) a globe trotting archaeologist who has more than a knack for getting himself tied up in dangerous and tricky situations. Each of the movies is a separate adventure and they don't really tie into each other apart from the appearance of the main hero characters.
STORY
Raiders of the lost ark, follows Indy as he goes in search of the Ark of the Covenant. Of course he is not the only one in search of the mystical object. Set during WWII, Indy goes up against the forces of the Third Reich as they believe that the ark will give them the power to conquer the earth.
Temple of doom sees Indy travel to Bangkok palace in search of the shankara stones which have been stolen by an evil cult who plan to use there power to take control of the palace and the region.
The last crusade; Follows Indy as he goes in search of his father (Sean Connery), as he has gone missing whilst searching for the Holy Grail. The trail takes him to Austria and finally to the grail itself in a race against time and the Nazis who are also seeking the grails power.
All three of the films are brilliant in the own right and have outstanding scripts and story that really grip the viewer and make you want to root for the hero. The story combined with some brilliant directing by Steven Spielberg and a great soundtrack provided by Jon Williams make these films some of the best of all time. There are also stellar acting performances from all the actors throughout the trilogy. Harrison Ford is perfect in the role of Indiana Jones. Sean Connery plays a rather humorous father figure and is the perfect match to play Indiana Jones's Dad. There are also great performances from John Rhys-Davies (Sallah) and Denholm Elliott (Marcus Brody) as Indy's bumbling side kicks. There is so much that these films have to offer that I don't think I could fit it all into this review. These films will appeal to anyone and are not just for the young boys who have all grown up wanting to be like Indiana Jones (Myself included). This is for the whole family to sit down and enjoy together. There's modern mysticism, good vs. Evil, Comic relief, white knuckle action, and just superb acting all round. It's just Fun! Fun! Fun!
EXTRAS
There's hours of documentaries here. You'll find a making of each of the movies, making the trilogy, Stunts of Indiana Jones, The sound of Indiana Jones, The Light and Magic of Indiana Jones and a whole bunch of trailers. For me the best part of the Extras was watching the screen test for Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones. For those that didn't know Tom Selleck was the first choice for the Indy role. I just couldn't picture him in Indy's shoes as Harrison ford really is Indian Jones in my eyes. All the extras are great and there are many interviews with cast and crew which show a great insight into how these superb movies were made.
FINAL VERDICT
These movies are excellent in every way and are an essential purchase to anyone's DVD collection. They are the sort of films that you never tire of watching. Movies at there best! All in my top ten of all time! The great news is that Indiana Jones 4 has been given the green light and will see all the old cast return. The forth movie has a release date of 2007/2008. So it's not too far away now and I cannot wait to see Indy make his return to the big screen. If you don't have this trilogy on DVD, go and get it now! Now if you'll excuse me I have a grail to find….
