Director: Roland Emmerich Producers: Dean Delvin. Writers: Roland Emmerich and Dean Delvin. Stars: Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Mary McDonald, Vivica Fox, Margerat Colin, Judd, Hirch and Randy Quaid.
Released July 2nd 1996 to coincide with the actual dates that appear in the movie this turned out to be a brilliantly made movie.
**BRIEF PLOT**
The date is July the 2nd and the US officials are tracking many massive UFOs orbiting the earth. Meanwhile, a hidden satellite transmission is intercepted by a cable company employer, David Levinson, (played by Jeff Goldblum),who soon realises that the transmission is more sinister than everyone realises. Can he warn the President and the world about his findings?
When the Aliens show their true intentions mankind must find a way to fight back before the world is obliterated..
Then, with intervention of the military, especially the 'Black Knights', led by Captain Steven Hiller, (played by Will Smith), the action really gets going, as we are treated to some fantastic air-to-air combat with the F/A 18 Hornet verses the much superior fire power of the saucer shaped alien fighter crafts.
**IN CONCLUSION**
A great movie to see for all the family, {unless you have a fear of aliens}. There is some great special effects and some fantastic explosions as most of the world comes under attack from the Aliens.
The gruesome looking Aliens are well made and can be a little scary for people with a nervous disposition, {so be aware before asking your great granny to watch it with you}.
Also, when the film moves to the desert it brings up an long standing conspiracy theory regarding Area 51 and the discovery of a space ship at Roswell in 1947..????.. Pure genius.
With a well written story line and some great acting the film will please everyone who watches.
Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum create some great characters for the film and really bring it to life with there skills as actors.
I enjoyed this movie and have watched it several times.
