Independence Day is one of my all time favourite films because it has got a great cast who all act superbly. It has stunning special effects and a lot of action. To top it all it is funny as well, so what more could you ask for.
The plot involves massive alien craft entering earths atmosphere and strategically positioning themselves all over the planet. They then attack firing laser beams that causes buildings to explode and cities to be destroyed. This makes for superb viewing. The survivors of the devastating attack have to stand as one in order to beat the powerful enemy. It may sound a simplistic plot but it really is excellent and the actors hold it all together very well.
The acting in this film can't get much better. There is an incredible cast of Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Randy Quaid. Its the type of plot in which every concievable type of emotion from happiness to terror is conveyed and the actors and actresses really do a wonderful job of making it all believable.
The action is out of this world. The scenes where the craft attack are incredible because there is literally a wall of fire rushing towards the camera hurtling fire enigines and cars in front of it. The action ranges from this to huge aerial battles between alien craft and fighter planes. This makes for very enjoyable viewing because the special effects at no point let the action down so it is always as believable as it is ever likely to be.
This really is a stunning film containing so many elements its hard to mention them all but as a whole they pull together to create a cinematic masterpiece. If you haven't seen it then I highly recommend it because it is superb entertainment. If you liked Godzilla then its the same team of Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin that directed and produced this in the same big budget way so give it a go.

Cant say I rated Godzilla but I loved this. The DVD 2 disc set is truly awesome and adds even more to it, my abiding memory of the film is the ease with which Jeff Goldblums apple mac laptop connects to the alien host. Most PCs and Macs cant connect to the net without a tantrum. Great op :o)
