This is about the day aliens come to earth and try to invade and conquer us. They have ships over every major city in the world, also they have a mother ship hovering around earth's orbit. You see a ship over the White house, and the president thinking about a way to commuicate with these beings.
They send in two helicopters who try to say hello by using a form of code, but the ships just destroy the helicopters. So he tells everyone to evacuate the cities, as he doesn't know what they are planning. But someone finds out what they are planning and tells the president. So all of the cabinet are sent to a airbase first, then the aliens destroy all the airbases, to stop any planes taking off, and the cabinet is killed. Then they plan to evacuate the president and his daughter as his wife is in another town. But sadly his wife and many people get killed when the aliens attack the major cities. You see destroyed city's and many people fleeing for their lives. The prtesident is in Airforce 1, when he is told about Area 51. And the fact that they have had an alien ship and aliens since the 1960's and was never told. They then find out that they can bring down the alien shields for a few mins, which would be enough time to bring the ships down. What two men must do is go to the mother ship and give it a virus just like a cold in a bomb and then detonate it. They do this but it takes awhile and they wonder if they have done it. Then our ships let fire on their ships and brings them down and this all happened on July the 4th and that is the reason they call it Independence Day in this movie.
The special effects are brillant in this film, but you need to see it, to see what i mean. The acting is brillant, there are many good actors in this film. But for some reason i Can't remember any names except Will Smith was in it. This is a film for anyone who doesn't get frightened easily.
