I was invited to see Ice Age 3 by a group of friends, and ended up going out on a Saturday night to see it, in 3D. I hadn’t actually seen any of the previous Ice Age films, although I had heard of them and knew some of the characters. I still managed to follow it though. It starts off in the ice age, as the title wou ld suggest. The characters comprise a strange herd that you wouldn’t find anywhere else in their ancient world; Manny and Ellie the mammoths in love, Diego the sabre toothed tiger, Sid the sloth and Crash and Eddie the possums. Scrat is still on the edge of the herd, watching out for his precious acorn but this time theres a new twist; he has competition in the form of a lady squirrel. Manny and Ellie are starting a family, with Ellie being pregnant they don’t think about much else and Sid starts to feel very left out. This does not have good consequences, after adopting three dinosaur eggs to have his own family they hatch into t-rex’s and then the mother comes looking for him. Soon, the whole gang are down in a land they never knew existed that’s filled with dinosaurs, trying to rescue Sid. Their journey will be treacherous with lots of unexpected twists, but it will certainly be interesting!
The characters are in my opinion definitely a strong feature of the film. They each are quirky in their own way, and all bring lots of laughs. Most characters have featured in previous films, but I believe that there are some who are introduced in this film. My favourite character was one who I think had been introduced for this film, Buck who was voiced by Simon Pegg. The character seemed to embody the voice actor really well, something good for me as I really like Simon Pegg. Buck was also very amusing and was a really well written character, someone you wouldn’t see anywhere else. It was also nice to see that they are putting real life scenarios into kids films to give them a bit of understanding, like when Manny and Ellie were starting a family and Sid felt left out. This is of course possible, just without the talking animals!
I didn’t actually think the 3D made any difference to the story at all, so if you are thinking about seeing the film in 3D then I would recommend that you save your £2. As well as not making a difference, they also gave me a headache so you should be aware of possible side affects.
The rating is a U, and I think that this is totally appropriate because its a movie aimed towards little kids and there wasn’t really anything that could offend in the film.
At the moment there are no plans for an Ice Age 4, and I don’t think there should be because stretching out a franchise does tend to make the films get worse as they go on. I am intending to watch the first and second instalments, to see if they are as good as I thought this was.
One of my only problems with the film is that it seemed to drag on far too long, although I was still watching it by the end I was starting to get very bored. When I got home I was shocked to discover it was only 96 minutes long; maybe they could cut out some bits as it seemed like there was a lot going on.
Overall I enjoyed this film, and laughed in all the right places and even some of the wrong ones! However, its not for everyone because it is aimed towards kids with a rating of a U.
...fan of the first two Ice Age Movies, I was very happy to find out that a third was on its way. I somehow forgot about it for a while, but saw it mentioned somewhere and got round to getting hold of the third instalment of one of my favourite animations. === ~~~ Cast ~~~ ===

After finding some stray eggs, Sid decides ... ...then he is to. Unfortunately for Sid the eggs he "adopts" belong to a Dinosaur. The dinosaur takes Sid and his buddies embark on a journey away to rescue him. === ~~~ My Thoughts ~~~ ===
Right from the beginning of the movie when the hilarious and my favourite character Scrat appears on screen, I knew I was going to enjoy it. I wasn't wrong. Right from the beginning the movie is extremely funny and had me glued to the screen for the remainder of ...

Advantages: Fab animation, good kids film Disadvantages: Lacks the comedy I loved in first film's. No match to the first two.
It was a typical late July day. The rain was pouring from the skies, my daughter was firmly over the novelty of being on school holidays, and I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Desperately needing to get out of the house for a few hours, I loaded up the web page of our local cinema to see what was on offer.
Hurrah, IceAge3: Dawn of the dinosaurs was one of the offerings! We have both the previous Iceage movies on DVD and they have both been a massive hit with both the kids and myself. I noticed it was showing in both 2D and 3D, and as we'd never experienced the latter decided this would be our entertainment for the day, and little miss and myself got ready to go in eager anticipation. As such my review is of the film only, as it's still showing at cinemas and not yet available on DVD.

It involves some of the best use of 3-D I've seen in an animated feature (Chicago Sun-Times, 19/10/2009)
It's not unusual for a film like this to be full of post-modern, sarcastic dialogue, but ICE AGE 3 has a sharper sabretooth than 99 per cent of its contemporaries (Daily Mail, 19/10/2009)
Fantastic animation, lively dialogue and some terrific new characters spice up this franchise. It'll delight existing fans and probably win over some new ones too (Heat, 19/10/2009)
The laughs are balanced with some outstanding action sequences (Sunday Mirror, 19/10/2009)
With [...] clever use of 3-D trickery to enhance storytelling as well as offer spectacle, ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS could prove the third time really is the charm. (Variety, 19/10/2009)
DVD Description
Manny, Sid, Diego, and Ellie are back in this third film in the computer-animated Ice Age series. With those creatures in starring roles, fans also get another dose of the vocal talents of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Queen Latifah, who are joined by SHAUN OF THE DEAD’s Simon Pegg. In ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAUR, Manny and Ellie are expecting their first baby, while Sid the sloth tries an unconventional way of starting a family that gets him into trouble. With all this talk of babies, Diego might be losing his saber-toothed edge, but a journey to save Sid may just turn the whole group into heroes. In addition to all that adventure, it wouldn’t be an Ice Age film if Scrat weren’t on a desperate hunt for an acorn, but he might get distracted by a shapely female squirrel.
