After watching the film 10,000 I though I would watch the other side of prehistoric animals in form animated form of Ice Age 2.
The film stars Manny, Sid, Diego and Scrat who were all in the first one. At the beginning of the film we again see Scrat who is still chasing his acorn, as he is trying to get hold of it the ice breaks and water starts coming through. Below where this is happening is a massive adventure area where Sid the Sloth has started up his own child care place.
Manny and Diego bump into another of the animals who is warning everyone that the ice is melting and that they will soon be under water. Manny and Diego don't believe what he is saying. As they try to tell everyone it is not going to happen they hear Sid call down to them, he is standing on the to of the ice cliff and about to jump as no one thinks he is every any good at things so he wants to prove himself by being the first down the biggest water slide.
Manny and Diego go up to rescue Sid but as they reach to top they look behind themselves and see that the ice is actually melting and that the dam will not hold for much longer. As they talk Sid into coming down the cliff they have a fall and we see all 3 of the animals go down the slide. At the bottom they tell everyone that the ice is in fact melting and that they must leave the valley straight away before they are all under water.
The entire population of the valley leaves and starts making their way to the end of the valley in hope there is some higher ground do they can survive when the dam breaks. Along the way Manny discovers that he is not the last mammoth alive when he meats Ellie.
As they make their way to the end of the valley Diego starts to show that he is scared of water and Sid takes it upon himself to try to make him overcome this fear.
Ellie has been bought up by possums and she believes that she is in fact a possum and dismisses Manny when he tries to tell her she is a mammoth.
The heard continue on their way with some fun adventures and mishaps and Ellie and Manny discover some woods where Ellie soon remembers how she came to be living with the possums and she finally accepts she is a mammoth. Manny tells her in a not so romantic way they as they are the last two of the species it is their duty to try and repopulate the planet with mammoth. She dismisses his words and starts to ignore him.
The animals continue on their way but will they all make it to the end of the valley before the dam breaks and will there be any safety for them from the water?
I thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish despite it being a children's film. The animation is fantastic and the attention to detail which has been used is super.
The story is very good and it has a good depth as it involves more than two central characters.
The film has been made for children but there is also some slight adult humour in it which makes it for people of all ages to watch.
The running time of the film is 86 minutes which I feel is just the right length. My 3 year old did get slightly bored about half way through and went off playing but my 6 year old did sit and watch it all. He even got some of the jokes and he thought Sid's antics were very funny.
The favourite character of the film in my household has to be Scrat the squirrel as he never seems to be able to get his acorn!

The film has been produced by Lori Forte and Directed by Carlos Saldanha. It was released by 20th Century Fox.
This DVD was a gift to us but I have seen it in the sale in Tesco for £5 so do shop around for a good bargain.
I highly recommend this film for people of all ages and it is a great film to sit down as a family and watch together.
