I have been wanting to see this film since I saw the trailers for it at the cinema but with 3 young boys I am not able to get there and watch it so I had to wait for the DVD to come out. I do like Will Smith as an actor so was looking forward to watching this.
THE FILM
At the beginning of the film was see a Doctor giving a television interview in the year 2009 and she is talking about the cure they have found and tested and has proven to cure cancer. We are then taken 3 years into the future, 2011, and see the drastic consequence of the cancer treatment.
The entire population of the world has turned into mutants due to the cancer treatment which caused a terrible virus which soon became air bound and infected the entire population. Robert Neville, a brilliant scientist is immune from the virus and he is spending his lonely days with is trusty dog trying to find a cure for the virus.
The mutants cannot come out in the sunlight so Neville spends his days searching for food and provisions and each day at 12 noon he goes to the docks and broadcast a radio message asking for any survivors to meet him there as he can provide food, safety and shelter. Neville lives his life by his alarm clock which he has to set to warn him when the sun is setting and when it has risen again in the morning so he can make sure he has got back to the safety of his own house before dark and the mutants are roaming the streets.
Along the journey to find a cure Neville has to capture a mutant to try out his drugs and sets a trap. So far he has spent 1001 days trying to find the cure and has been unsuccessful. Will he eventually find one and help the world become human again and will anyone ever answer his radio broadcast.
MY OPINION
I did thoroughly enjoy this film from the start right through to the end. I have read several reviews about the film which all say how bad the ending was so I was not expecting great things. I did find the ending was not as bad as some people had made out but I do personally feel that it was a bit rushed.
Will Smith played a brilliant and very believable part and he had a great relationship with his trusty dog.
I did find the scenes with the mutants in quite jumpy but maybe that was because I am scared and spooked very easy. The mannequins which Will's character befriended and talked to were quite freaky but they did add a quite comic aspect to the film.
The special effects used for the mutants were very good and the characters looked great even if they were a little scary!
I do think that the film could have been slightly longer so the ending could have been made a bit more in keeping with the film. I know the film has been based on a book but I cannot comment on the comparisons here as I have not read the book but I will certainly be keeping my eye out for it now after seeing this.
INFO
The film was produced by Akiva Goldsmith, James Lassiter, David Hayman and Neal Moritz. It was directed by Framcis Lawrence.
The film has a running time of 101 minutes and has been given a 15 certificate which I feel is very appropriate for the film.
SPECIAL FEATURES
On the DVD there are a few special features which include:-
Trailer English and Spanish Subtitles Anatomy of a scene courtesy of Sundance Channel The making of I Am Legend Deleted Scenes Directors commentary Production commentary Writer commentary Still photo presentation by Andrew Lesnie
The extras are watchable if you enjoy this sort of thing but I would personally not pay the extra just to get them on DVD as you would not be missing much if you did not have the chance to see them. I was not impressed with them at all.
I have seen the DVD for sale ranging in price from £15.00 to £9.00 so do shop around to try and find a bargain.
Overall I am glad that I have watched the film as I did not have great expectations and I was pleasantly surprised.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Sorry for the H, but if this is to be a full DVD review, I would prefer to see a review of the extras in similar detail to the way you've reviewed the film, rather than just a list and a brief overview of them.

Great review for the film although I was extremely dissapointed with it. I was intrigued to watch it and by the previews it loosk impressive. I was wondering how it would progress after hearing about it. I did not enjoy the film at all and feel will smiths talent was wasted in this film.
