...What's big, orange, loves lasagne and has just come out on DVD? Garfield of course!
Okay, that was quite a poor joke, but it's really no joke- that cool, loveable fat cat has scratched his way to our TV screens in 3D!
Well, as you know from the comics and cartoons, Garfield is a lazy, cool cat with a huge tummy. But when a dog moves into the house, everything goes not as swell as planned. Garfield plays tricks on the cute little puppy (played by a real dog-in fact all the animals are real except Garfield!), but when he's kidnapped, Garfield finds that he wasn't that bad at all, and goes searching for him. This leads to an array of funny and strange twists, and a great finish of which I will not spoil for you.
What I absolutely love about this film is the Special effects that were used for Garfield. He looks slightly different from...

Advantages: Funny, excellent effects. Disadvantages: violence to animals
...Well we’ve had talking sheep, pigs and more, so now it’s the turn of the family pets to amuse you, the Cats and dogs.

...canine - he is NOT loveable, nor is he particularly cute or even mildly appealing in, of course, a canine-sort-of-way. Dewey is actually obnoxious, and as far as first impressions go, he is more anti-hero than hero - but those are only first impressions. Although Dewey never becomes the 'loveable' sort of dog that can be found in your run-of-the-mill canine movie, he does tend to grow on a person.
This is not the type of boy-and-his-dog movie that is meant to draw sympathy and tears; there is no sappiness, no cutesy moments - only loads of laughter, and 111 minutes of unadulterated entertainment.
This is one movie you shouldn't pass up. It's fun, it's quirky, the kids will love it, and you'll save loads on tissues! No tears here - just loads of fun and laughter....
