As a massive Danny Dyer fan, I always tend to buy DVD's that have him in, not because they are all fantastic but purely because he is in it and a girl needs some eye candy in her life when chilling out at home.

Human Traffic has become one on my recently acquired DVD's and even though it is a relatively old film, featuring a very young Danny Dyer, which if I had watched it when it was first released I don't think that attraction would have been there then as he has very much matured over the years into what I consider an extremely good looking fella, however still having those boyish looks about him and that cockney bad lad charm.

Human Traffic is set in Cardiff and has five main characters, all best of friends who join up over the weekend purely to get completely and utterly wasted on whatever substances are available. The film itself portrays they early nineties when the clubbing scene was at its climax and it seemed to be the done thing to live for the weekend to arrive. It gives you a completely accurate account of what it would have been like to be in your late teens, early twenties and what the weekend would consist of, basically, alcohol, drugs and sex.... and what has to happen when all these rolled into one ... a big come down.

Five friends consisting of Jip, Moff, Koop, Lulu and Nina, all of them being Welsh with the exception of Moff Danny Dyer who moved to Cardiff with his family.

The characters

Jip

Jip is typically the ring leader, he always make sure that everything is arranged and everyone is ready to go out. He always puts his back on the the line for his mates and will put the first.

He has come from a bad upbringing, now living on his own, and occasionally visiting his mum, who has turned to prostitution in which he hates with a passion and would love to make mince meat of the man that is in his mothers bed when he visits.

When out on a night out, Jip always has the problem af when he pulls, he cannot actually do the deed because he gets paranoid, however he is attracted to his best mate Lulu, however they have never actually got it together

Moff

Moff is probably the most hardcore of them all, he lives for the weekend and will take whatever is put in front of him, regretting in later and always vowing to never do it again. Moff isn't really interested in girls however does have a few embarrassing moments running up phone bills and being caught by his mother doing what every young lad does

Lulu

Lulu is a party animal, she has no luck with men at all, and always find that they cheat on her. She shares everything with best friend Nina, every gory detail in which girls do with their best mates. She is a typical woman who takes hours to get ready, to go through her wardrobe and try everything on to go back to the first outfit that she tried. Very attractive and eventually becomes attracted to Jip.

Koop

Koop wants to be a successful Dj. He believes he knows everything about music and is a great DJ. He is great at the hard sell as he works in a music store and he has the gift of the gab and knows what to say to make a sale.

His girlfriend is Nina, in which he is very jealous of, although conversations are very innocent, he believes that every other bloke that she talks to to, she is having an affair with which always causes problems.

Nina

Nina is very hard, she says it as it is and does not take no messing from anyone. Initially working in a fast food place, she walked out because he boss was always pawing at her. She is a great friend to Lulu and is always there for her and thinks the world of Koop, her boyfirend even though he is jealous of her every move.

The cast work well together and I find the film very real to life. I don't feel that it influences people, I think it give people a reality check at what actually does go on during the weekend when you are at that tender age.

If you like British films, then this will probably be your cup of tea, worth a watch if you have never seen it before. Not viewing material for under 18's due to the content.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.
