No before anyone says anything I am not talking about my love life, although the title does seem quite appropriate in describing my love life of present. This is actually a film of romantic and comic proportions, a story based around two people whom both aim to win a bet that they have agreed to. One to loose a man in ten days and the other to make a woman fall in love with them.
This film depicts so many situations that both men and women fall foul to within their own lives. Parts of the story makes you cringe with disbelief, while others have your heart panging with desire. Soon start reflecting back to situations where in fact you have shown such characteristics and you are not only laughing at the film but at the comical sad but true mistakes you have made in your own love life to date.
STORYLINE **************
Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive who is trying to win a big campaign, where he is able to control the advertising for a diamond contract. In an attempt to win the right to run the campaign he is bet by fellow co workers, who believe that this type of advertising requires a somewhat feminine touch, that if he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days, then
the contract is his.
While Andie Anderson the "How To" journilist for "Composure" magazine is assigned to write an article on "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days”, after the editor highlighted the failings of her fellow co-worker and friend on how her relationships always turn to disaster.
That evening both Andie and Ben are in the same pub and Spears and Green Ben’s evil co workers pick out Andie as the woman he must make fall in love with him, while Andie decides he would be a great candidate for her own goal.
The next ten days are a head to battle between Andie and Ben to win their bets. Andie giving as good as she gets in trying to persuade Ben to finish with her, while Ben continues on his quest to make her fall head over heals in love with him.
Such highlights include her moving her own things to his flat, buying a love plant, getting a dog that urinates over his precious snooker table and even interrupting a lads poker game, could any man take such annoyance. Andie is in disbelief when infact Ben will not dump her, as he is determined his own right to win his campaign, by going to a relationship therapist and taking everything that Andie throws at him with a smile. The bet comes to a head at the diamond dinner, where each others co- workers lets it slip that they have both been trying to win a bet over the other.
It soon becomes to clear to both of them that in fact they are not guuniea pigs, but each has true feelings for the other. I do not want to tell you the ending , as many of you may have not seen the film as yet, but lets just say it’s a chick flick, so how else does a chick flick end.
MAIN CHARACTERS **********************
Andie played by Kate Hudson
Kate brings life to the character and her own sense of naughtiness and charm. She is an outstandingly beautiful woman, and god knows I would love to look like her, but hey god handed me the cards I was dealt and he must have had a sense of humour when he designed me.
Ben played by Matthew McConaughey
Okay many people that have seen this film swoon over Matthew, but unfortunately he has never floated my boat so to speak, but I will agree he is an excellent actor, who portrays his character well.
SETS *******
The office environments, in which they both worked were a bit off the wall, I have never worked at a place where I could play snooker while working and where workers were not noticed as absent, while they sat at home crying over being dumped.
FAVOURITE PARTS **********************
* The visit to Ben’s family, where they induldge in the card game they named in the film as “Bullshit”, otherwise known as “cheat”.
* The duet of “you’re so vain” between Ben and Andie at the advertising dinner after they have both found out about the lying and deciept each of them have inflicted on each other over their bets.
OVERALL ***********
An excellent romantic comedy, which made me laugh and cringe. I was able to relate to many of the stupid and somewhat unbelievable situations in which Andie placed Ben and I took away a lot of advice from the film on what not to do when going out/dating a guy.
The only things that did let it down, was that it parts it dragged out situations. For an example the family photo album where Andie had merged Ben’s and her face together in order to make pictures of how their children. Also the sets were a little un-realistic.
Overall I would recommend the film to any one who likes chick flicks and feel good films and all those blokes out there thinking urghhh believe it can also provide you with a good a laugh, as well and a good source of material to wind your girlfriends/partners up with.
