Angel is a top class police officer (not police man - police officer.) He knows every rule and regulation inside out and came top of every class he has taken. An expert in hand to hand combat, driving and bike chases, he has a 400% arrest record within London. After being stabbed in the hand by a Santa Clause (Peter Jackson) he returns to find he is being reassigned to the sleepy West Country village of Sandford - statistically the safest place in England to live. The force want rid of him as he is too good. As he packs his life, and peace lily up to move to the country, he quickly becomes aquanted with drunk Danny, who he arrests for drink driving. The next morning he clocks in at the station and goes about his new and exciting challenges such as finding missing swans and stopping local biscuit thiefs, amongst a barrage of childlike questions from his partner Danny. However, things take a sinister turn when several members of the community die in "accidents." Angel and Butterman must convince the rest of the force these are murders whilst tracking down the guilty party(ies)
DVD extras: Disc One - with the film.
Outtakes. The out takes as you would expect from the cast are very funny. One in particular with Nick Frost trying to spray on deoderant and deliver a line whilst having the giggles is very funny. The guys clearly do not take work too seriously and had a great time making it.
Trivia Reel - A commentary over the top of the movie with trivia facts over the movie. This is for the ultimate film trivia geeks, so I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Trailers and TV Spots
Disc Two - Bonus. This is a jam packed full of extras. It is set out on a comprehensive way - in the style of a filing cabinet in the evidence room. In my opinion the best ones are:
Video Blogs - A series of video blogs shot for the internet throughout the filming. It mainly features Pegg, Frost and Wright but has some great insights into the making of the film. Each lasts about 2 minutes and it is great to see them bright eyed at the start then considerably worse for wear by the end.
Photo gallery - a pretty bog standard feature but nice to see some behind the scenes shots.
Making of featurette - This is an interesting progression of how Hot Fuzz was born of Edgar Wrights childhood dream and the success of Shaun of the Dead. It is interesting to see how the cast of young police officers and older villagers interact with each other and how the in-jokes made it onto the big screen.
22 deleted scenes - some of these are very funny and I'm guessing were cut out because of the already long final edit. Some were cut out for a reason though. Others include: Featurettes, Special Effects, Edgar Wright's First Cop Movie and Am Blam (Wrights first action attempt)
Best Quotes: Danny: "By the Power of Grayskull"
Nicholas: "He has appointed himself Judge, Jury and Executioner" Danny: "He is NOT Judge Judy and executioner"
Andy Cartwright: "Everyone and their mums is packin' round here!" Nicholas: "Like who? " Andy Wainwright: "Farmers. " Nicholas: "Who else?" Andy Cartwright: "Farmers' mums."Trivia:
Angel's girlfriend, who appears for about 2 minutes under a boiler suit and mask is double oscar winner Cate Blanchett.
Rafe Spall, who plays DC Andy Cartwright is the son on Timothy Spall
The whole film was shot in only 11 weeks
Somerfield was used as it was were Edgar Wright was a shelf stacker when younger.
The female "Best Village" judges are played by Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's mums
There are references to Dirty Harry, The Addams Family, Straw Dogs, Taxi Driver, The Omen, Mad Max, The Shining, He-man, Miami Vice, Crocodile Dundee, Lethal Weapon, Point Break, Bad Boys 2, Goodfellas and Jurassic Park to name a few.
Was shot in Wells in Somerset

Rex I Can't Control Myself - The Troggs Dance with the devil - Cozy PowellOverview: If you like Shaun of the Dead or Spaced I am sure you will have already seen this film but I can not recommend it enough. It is a British film that is not trying to be suitable for the Americans or too clever. The jokes are silly and often ridiculous but the two main characters and script are so heartwarming these can be forgiven. This movie is full of self indulgent references to other films, but if you have seen the films it refers to you will see it is a nod of admiration rather than a mickey take. It is rare to have a film nowadays without a proper romance in, and this is no different - however the unconventional love here is between Danny and Nicholas - there are some real tender/ cringeworthy moments but this just adds to thgeir likeability. If you are offended by swearing and quite gory scenes I wouldn't suggest seeing this, as towards the end it does get quite bad. (If you are like me with a childish sense of humour go for it.) The gore is necessary for me here, as someone who is really squeamish and can't stand horror, I loved this over the top bloodfest this descended into. It reminded me of the ridiculous Vincent Price horror films that didn't scare you so much as made you laugh out loud. There is one sequence where Angel kicks an old lady in the face - which in itself is awful, but in the context of this film is absolute comedy brilliance. The cast of this film is astonishingly good - it is the cream of the British comedy circuit, some just coming in for a matter of seconds. Unbelievably Cate Blanchett appears for around a minute and in a costume that covers almost her entire face. Just because this film is British, don't be fooled into thinking the stunts will be rubbish - this film is ambitious as it is funny. The car chases, gun sequences, fighting and supermarket battle are sheer brilliance. Some people have said to me this isn't funny and runs way too long in the final sequence, but I disagree completely. The sequence matches the film entirely - over the top and a homage to other films in the genre. If you have a couple of hours free and need cheering up, go for this as it is the perfect way to cheer yourself up or waste an afternoon.
