Horton Hears a Who is a film which has been based on very popular book by Dr Seuss. As my 6 year old is a fan of the books I decided to treat him to the film. I will admit I have now watched it twice as I wanted to watch it on my own with no interruptions first!
The film stars an elephant named Horton, voiced by Jim Carrey, who lives in the jungle of Nool. He has many friends and spends his day teaching the children. One day when he is having a bath in the river he hears a noise which seems to be coming from a tiny speck. Horton follows the noise and manages to catch the speck on a flower. No one believes him when he tells them and tells him to stop being so silly and to stop making the children believe daft things.
Horton knows he is right and soon he managed to talk to one of the people on the speck. The speck is home to Who-Ville, this is a lace where nothing goes wrong and everyone is happy. The mayor of Who-ville manages to talk to Horton and they soon discover that their town is in great danger. If Horton cannot find the speck a safe and secure place to live then they will all be destroyed.
The mayor tries to warn the people of Who-Ville but no one takes any notice of him and thinks he is going crazy. It is up to him and Horton to try and stop the disaster happening. Horton faces his own troubles as the leader of the jungle, a kangaroo has set out to try and take the flower from Horton with the help of the naughty monkeys and a strange vulture.
Will Horton be able to save Who-ville and will the people of Who-Ville every believe the mayor?
I have to say that considering this is a children's film I really did enjoy it. I am please that I got to watch this on my own as if I would have tired to watch with my boys then they would have constantly been interrupting me.
The animation is all wonderful and Jim Carey providing the voice of Horton fits extremely well and he is able to put emotions across in the way he says certain things. The town of Who-Ville was very fun and different which made it fun for the children.
I enjoyed the narration we got when we visited Who-Ville as it did sort of follow the book as the rhyming pattern was used. I found that this helped to explain to my 6 year old what was going on slightly more and he found it much easier to follow the story when it would go from the jungle with Horton to Who-ville.
The whole story was very far fetched and not at all believable but for a children's film it was wonderful and very funny at times. I think that they did the original book by Dr Seuss proud. Even the characters in Who-ville looked like characters from his books.
I found the characters of the children in the jungle were funny and added a little more to the story instead of it just being centred around Horton. I though the little fluffy one was very cute!
When I asked my eldest what he thought of the film he said that he enjoyed it, it was funny and cool! My 4 year old was not too interested in it and he did start to get bored and want to go and play but he did find some parts of the film quite funny.
The film was released by Twentieth Century Fox in 2008. The film was Produced by Bob Gordon and Bruce Anderson, it was directed by Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino. The film has a running time of 82 minutes which is a great length for younger children as they don't get bored and go off to do something else.
The film has a U certificate which means that it is suitable for all as there are no scenes which will offend or harm viewers and I will agree that this film is definitely suitable for all ages.
I managed to get my DVD for the great price of just under £6 brand new from Amazon.co.uk so do shop around for a great bargain.

I watched this with the kids when it first came out fearing the worst but I was pleasantly surprised. Actually quite a good film with some decent moral messages there.
